You might consider welding the pieces together.  :gap:

Why did you make the base plate so angular?  I have seen other braces (i.e. steering box frame brace) using a similar design, so there must be a reason.  Rounded corner result is much less stress in the welds.  Tight transitions/corners induce stress concentrations.
