There was about 8" there and 14" about 10 miles away.

Olyeller is inside the garage in front of the big blue pile of :pokinit: (the next project)

Since he can't drive his Jeep, might as well put it in storage! :talkingn:

All total we got around 12" of snow in on both days(Sat. Sun.) in Tuolumne City( near Sonora). OK its a pile of crap but even crap looks good with a 6" lift and 35's soooon.

ya i understand wat u meant w/ workin w/ production engineers....and hands on knowledge is good..thats all i do for 4 hours a day when im in my class (and 2 hours of theory a week)....but theres a difference between production engineers n a welding engineer.....a production engineer goes to school, gets a certificate and gets a job doin cave man work..as in nothing too extremely hard....a welding engineer practically runs a company and make 2 to 3 times the salary......and the "rules" that welders go by are much much more strict then a backyard welder's..as in: no undercut in the weld bead, no cold lap in the bead, no cracks, no slag inclusions(where a flux is used..stick/flux-core), even bead contour, controlled heat affected zone, no burn/blow throughs........as i said before....im not bein an a$$....just fillin u guys in w/ some KNOWLEDGE...thanks bye

I'm going to go right ahead and take Stinky's side with this one.  I'm going to school to get my B.S. in Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology and out in the field weld prep is HUGE.  Why do you think in most industries every welder has his own fitter and prepper?

Like Stinky, i'm in the shop 4 hours a day, and have classroom theory for 2 hours.  The single most important part of a weld joint is prep.  If the joint isn't prepped perfect, you're weld will fail if it is exposed to it's rated loads.  You guys are saying hands on experience is better than some degree.  Well guess what, I have both.  This school is one of the tops in the country simply because they give so much hands on and out of position welding that you are almost completely prepared for anything you could encounter in the industry.  Sure, sometimes it is impossible to prep a material that is to be welded completely.  In the shop, we practice ways to get around prep work, or alternate ways of prepping materials such as different solvents and acids.

If you think those welds are good, so be it.  I'm telling you right now though, just a visual inspection of that crossmember shows me you don't know what you are talking about.  Sure, more wire speed gives you more amperage for better penetration, but if your wire is bouncing off the base metal, then your voltage isn't close to high enough to support that amperage setting.

It probably sounds like i'm trying to be a know it all here, but i'm just trying to look out for your nephew's safety.

:bash: sometimes. It's all good though. That is what this forum is for is so people can express their thoughts and opinions, not everyone will agree with you 100% of the time. If they did it would be quite boring and you would never learn anything.
