thanks RS, that actually means alot to me. I have a mental image of perfection accosiated with my 87- it is my goal to make this one even nicer-to us i guess

today i picked up a turbo from a local board member, I think he said his name was grenadedtoy.

anyway, it is a Garrett t3/t4 hybrid. it has a fairly small cold side- which means it will spool quickly at low rpms.

my goal is to achieve peak boost between 3-4000 rpm range, which is the max that i typically see in my trucks.

I want the turbo to benifit the power output on offroad situations.

garretts website advertises the turbo at a peak support level of 350 horsepower. i have no doubt this motor will be close to that- im aiming for around 330

well, thanks- this is far from my first turbo build, infact i used this same brand on the last two, they seemed to work great in the subaru applications. i guess we will see what it does in a few months

i got a garrett gt35r if you want to it..
hmmm...tempting....what do you want for it?

crawlerdan

today i made the oil supply and return lines for the turbo out of 3/16 brass tube...... pretty much out of little things to do...everything requires a big payment and spendy parts

89sastoyo

nice and I have never seen a stainless mani have problems other than in a civic hatch that had 4 something to the wheels and ended up cracking the mani where it collects so it wasn't repairable. But I doubt that will happen to 330 and crawlin not racing people.

All these turbo build ups now days makes me want something fancy lol. Keep it up can't wait to see it finished

I really wanted to keep my 22RTE in my truck when I bought it.  But at the same time, I knew that to build it right would require alot more $$ than I wanted to spend in just a motor.  I wanted to sell the motor, but some days, I think that maybe one day I might have it built.  :dunno:  I'm on the fence on that decision.

But I also know that a really good build on a 22R motor will produce close the same HP #'s as a turbo one, but more reliable.  And then if I want to do a hardcore swap I'd really like to go 3RZ.  Cause I like the MPG #'s that the 4 cyls are getting.

SO, most of us have to live vicariously through Dan!!  :rofl2:

im still on the fence about megasquirt. i had it in my last rally car, it was ok i guess. i have found a guy in so cal that can make a plug and play harness, that will allow me to use the ecu i have for the lexus, and retain all my guages, fuse block, ect. this is a option i will probably take, as i will daily drive this truck (or want to be able to at least) and the cost is a fraction of a standalone system

88_Pathy

Cool deal. How would you tune it? Is the Lexus ECU programmable? I know BigMike had issues with his because it wasn't programmable enough for the supercharger and boost he tried to run. Or can it just be tuned like EFI live?

crawlerdan

i dunno yet...when the time comes, ill look into it a little more, but as of now- its at teh bottom of the list o things to do

Wow... what a build! I had a question about something a few pages back, but after seeing the turbo+manifold I completely forgot everything; including my name.  :eyebrow:

Oh! It was about the intercooler: is that a factory Lexus part or something else? I've got an 88 AllTrac and I used an IC from a 97 Saab; it fit pretty snug and the in/out are on the same end. I think the 96 and earlier Saab ICs are on opposite ends, taller and thinner... might be worth checking out? Have you checked out siliconeintakes.com for piping/joiners/etc? They've been great during my build; good prices and fast shipping too.  (shameless plug)

Also the fan(s)-- Spal makes a few slim fans that are about 2" thick and from 9 to 13? inches in diameter. I have two 2" x 11" on my car and they are great; rarely gets over 190 unless I turn one fan off... but it'll still hold about 210 no matter what; traffic, hills, hard driving etc.

Awesome rig... should be on the cover of a magazine!! (maybe the centerfold too!  )
