that will be badass man- you should intercool it- a saab intercooler makes a nice adition, or a factory supra intercooler

i thought that engine already came with an intercooler? unless he didnt use it on the 4runner, i'm not sure.  I should probly ask him about it!   I have some big plans for the runner as soon as i can sell my current crawler

giggity

pumkin toy

yeah hopefully it wont be a real bear to get it installed. i suppose i will have to make a bunch of custom piping to connect to the intercooler.

yes-understated gracefully :D

pumkin toy

the current owner is saying to not install it unless i want to build it for alot of horsepower, but i would think that its deffinately not gonna hurt it any to install it anyways.

its a safety devices, wont increase power by itself- but will make the power you have safer on the motor,  :beerchug:

pumkin toy

yeah i know that if i wanted to increase power i would have to get bigger injectors, some type of ecu tuning abilities and install the intercooler.  But like you said it would be nice to have cooler air flowing into the engine which is always better for the engine. He has been running it for six years on 9lbs with no intercooler and never had any problems.

aaaahhhh... finally got a little done today, ive been out of town for 4 weeks...

completely assembled the motor, new belts, installed the N/A intake manifold....and decided to drop the motor in, it is a huge pregnant dog, but fits well, the rear sump pan clears the highsteer and diff by over 3 inches, i have about 3 inches for the radiator and fan....will have to get creative there.... i made a new oil dipstick tube for the rear sump pan out of 1/2 inch rolled steel...did just a little intake polishing, mostly just to clean it up....um....IT CLEARS THE HOOD!!!!!.... i was worried about that

crawlerdan

more stuff

crawlerdan

i need to make motor mounts before it can sit there by itself, but it is level side to side, and resting at about 3.5 degrees tilt back

THK Matt

DAMN DAN!!!

So explain why you are using a N/A Intake Manifold with the GTE?

crawlerdan

great question- i was expecting it at some point, there are several reasons.

it is much more simple to wire, and plumb

when i deleted the twin turbos, i would have had to plug coolant lines, egr stuff, oil lines, and sensors accosiated with the twins, this way i dont

WAAAAY easier to get parts and sensors for, as well as gaskets.

WAAAAY cheaper ^

the route that i wanted to run my intercooler pipes would have neen very difficult using the turbo mani, with the n/a, it will be easier.

but the main reason is- have you looked at the costs of a complete twin turbo motor? they are anywhere from 2500-4500, depending on miles. i was able to get my motor for 450- IF i removed the turbos and intake, because the previous owner wanted them :D

plus he gave me the n/a intake in the deal

pumkin toy

damn! looks good in there!  thats a great price for the engine too!  so what turbo and exhaust manifold are you going to run on it then?

i will be running a stainless tubular header, with a divorced wastegate, should be here tommarow.

i dunno about the turbo yet, thats later on down the road after a tranny and bellhouse

Richmondo

Nice work Dan. Looks like it should have always been in that engine compartment.

haha yea....except for the no room for the radiator part

great reasons why and I figured you had a good explanation!!

but after this last statement, comes another question.
Now i have done some research as far as seeing what should be replaced on the exhausts and whatnot.
I know on the 7M engines, the exhaust manifold from the factory is VERY well designed and already in a tubular-like design off the bat. So MOST everyone higly suggests you not replace it with an after market one unless you are using it for strictly racing purposes... as it makes the engine compartment very hot (wrapping and/or ceramic coating needed) and for the price, gains are minimum. So my question is, are the 2JZ's the same way? Now if you didnt get yours with the exhaust manifold, then I get why you went that route

Thought I'd at least throw that out there anyways... I know you or others may need or want that bit of information.

I like the way this is going, and if i was going for total pimpness, I would go with this engine in my 87 MK3 as well, but i want to keep the modifications to a minimum, as I like the way these things look out of the box.... GO TOYOTA!

Now keep on it Dan, I enjoy your builds. I have most of your pictures saved on my computer. :gap:
:beerchug:

So what's next on the list of things to tackle?

crawlerdan

yes- i have no factory manifold, for a turbo at least, i have a n/a header somewhere...

so i have to purchase one, and since there are no factory single turbo 2jzs- i had to get a custom one made :D

whats next?

i will make motor mounts for it this week, pull it back out, and pull the harness out so that i can begin the wiring portion.

before it goes back in i need a flywheel clutch assem., a bell housing from a 1jz twin turbo, and a t100 transmission.

so, it will be a while, because everyone of the above listed peices cost a small fortune. im thinking february we may hear 4 toyos belching smoke...maybe march

the truck will also be getting a set of dual ultimate transfercases from mr. marlin before it leaves the shop  ;)

THK Matt

so your getting a driver drop R150F and then slapping duals with a pass drop on to it?
Man im full of questions haha.

But damn dude... sounds like you have this swap nailed already.
and are you purchasing your 1JZ BH from Driftmotion?

yes, aaron at driftmotion is aware of what i am doing, and sounds kinda excited. i will be buying clutch and bellhouse from him.

what i need is an r150 from a 95.5-97 t100, they are pass drop. they also have a 1 inch longer input, allowing me to mate them to my 2jz.  i could use a tacoma r150, driverdrop, and convert it to pass drop, but that would be more expensive. but it is an option, as the t100 trans is a rare bird

as far as your radiator "no room" issues, the electric fan on my 7mgte swap is on the outside of the engine bay. they installed it right behind the grill up against the radiator.  right now there is about an inch and a half of room between the water pump and radiator! pretty tight!

that would work.... they use both a mech fan and a electric fan on the PSing pump. on the 7M's anyways... not sure on the JZ blocks

im not too worried about it, my intercooler can live in other places and make more room up there. there actually is more room then what i was expecting.

tonight i started on motor mounts.

using cj7 poly bushings, and dom tube, with 1/4 plate

crawlerdan

haha- when deleting the a/c on a 2jz, you need a shorter belt, turns out you need one for a 2000 audi a4 with a 2.8....just useless info :qtip:
