loosing a pinion seal and  driving on dirt roads for a month  kinda does that

well and not cleaning them  befor it  dried

i was concerned with the housing being pretty HOT  to the touch,  after calling WillyMammoth (Mark) and emails from Zuk,  i'm not going to pull the pinion, since i jacked up the drivers side and the driveshaft could be turned by hand and it fealt really smooth

more short trips around town :wave:

Ya...it's normal for heat during break-in. It sounds like it's not a problem with too LITTLE ppl. :)
That old pinion had some nasty looking gouges inear the heel of the teeth! :ack:

yea Zuk, it made some wicked noises when i was on the trail last month, i had no choice but to drive it home (45 miles)  i kept it slow around 40-45 mph, by the time i got home it sounded like i was stirring rocks in a coffee can
i expected to find big chunks of missing teeth but  thats all the damage i found 
well, besides about .180 -.200 in backlash :yikes:

Once when I was coming back from Panamint my rear drain plug went bye-bye on the way home, of course I didn't notice it until I was getting off the freeway. Sounded really bad and I limped home for about a mile, got it home and just as I parked it the thing locked up.

i jacked up the rear and spun the driveshaft with my hand  :woohoo:  i changed the gear oil, it was almost 600 miles
i used NAPA premium 80-85-90

Oh valvoline gear oil... :D gotta love napa's oil products being valvoline.. and half the price in the napa bottles and what not.

exactly... its the same exact stuff... in a napa brand bottle.
I was told this buy the guys at Napa.. its all valvoline...and half the price.
