ive got another block and a good 22R head,  as you can see from the pic  the water port near #3  is eaten up
yea that head is getting stripped and junked out

i feel in my truck with this block and my cam i can run the 22R head and intake with still good results

if i go with the other block then i will use another 20R head
with this block and a 20 head the gasket area is just toosmall  for a good seal

don't get hot when I pulled my trailer (2.5K) over the Oregon/Cali border in 100 deg heat. (summit 4.5K feet)

and I'm running my stock 22R head. (well except for the over sized ehx. valves)

ive got another block,   i'll have it bored to .020  or 030  and have some aisin pistons  for it, then run the 22R head i have thats ported bigtime,  then put the LCE cam in that head,  it should make some nice power

i got a good 22R  carb,  i might try running it  and see how it does on steep inclines  :headscratch:

I still have my 22r with a 85 head and stage 2 LCE cam and I have WAY more power than it did before. I tink you will be happy if you just put the LCE cam in it. Im happy with it and should be more happy with the EFI. Oh yeah my carb and timing still are not perfect and im way happy.

Wow Glen, you had some serious detonation going on there......

Have you considered a 2nd Knock sensor with a monitor?

Check out MSD's Knock Alert Sensor: http://www.msdignition.com/tool_8.htm

I used that on my SC MR2 and it would give distint reading differences even between 89 oct and 91 oct gas. I would just set my timing in accordance to the Knock Alert Monitor. And it saved me when my Water/Alcohol Injection would run out. I would get on the boost and all of a sudden that thing would light up red and start beeping like crazy. $100 is small and simple insurance to save a whole engine in my opinion

Good luck with the next one. Let me know if I can help any

one thing i have learned  is  anything over .040 on a 22R block  dont use a 20R head,  head gasket has too little sealing surface

after i check this for cracks and eggage  i might get another set and try  a stock 22R head

otherwise the other block will go in
