So here is a deal im debating right now.

A buddy of mine wants to buy my axles for $1200.  On top of the money he would give me his axles.
My axles:
Front 85' axle  with truss, diff armor, knuckle gussets, high pinion arb 5.29, 30 spline longfields, longfield hub gears, arp knuckle studs, trail gear highsteer, and vented drilled/slotted rotors, wheel spacers.  The rear axle is an open 5.29 v6 diff.

His axles:
85' front housing, stock except it has 4.56 open v6 diff, axle truss and diff arm, along with tg highsteer and fj80 rotors/wheel spacers.
Rear is stock except 4.56 open.

So as you all know i am sick of toyota axles and wanted to get a 60 front and possibly 14bolt rear.
This would put cash in my pocket to buy tons, or at least a 60 and set them aside and build them while still being able to drive my toyota if i have to.

What do you all think. I have had friends say yes, and others tell me i would be making a bad decision.
Basically id be getting $1200 to trade diffs, birfs and knuckles.
To me that seems to be a tough call... id ask for a little more money... that always takes the edge off.

Dingman.

Picked up a new truck today.
89' 3rd gen 22re 5speed 2wd.   Had a motor with bad headgasket in it.  Also included was a good 22re from a 4x4.

Pulled the bad motor out and tomorrow should swap oil pans and pickup tubes.

Also need tail lights, and the connectors for them.  Someone cut the connnetors out.
Need headlights.
Need intake and exhaust gaskets.
Needs a battery.
Possibly tires if i decide to drive it.

Plans are to get it running, drive it to my new place when i move and then either dd it or build it.

I dont know what im going to do with it yet.  First step is to get it running.  I love this body style. I just honestly wish it was a 4wd platform to start with.  I basically traded my front diff and longfields for it though. :dunno:

kind of stressing that i have three vehicles right now.

Im hopeing i can register this in my name and keep it non op'd while i build it

Dingman.

I was told the donor motor had about 140k on it.
The cylinder walls looked really good, the bearings looked good. Timing chain and guides looked new.  From what we could tell anyways.

Motor is in.  Just have to install the plenum, finish connection a few wires and hoses.  Route the vacuum lines.  Install radiator and fill it up with oil and water and we should be able to get it running tomorrow

Dingman.

Only got a 60.

This was from a guy in town.  I still need a rear axle.
I also got a set of 17" D window steelies from the guy and some 37" mtr rollers.  Going to grab those tomorrow if the rain lets up at all.

86bobbedtoy

get getting, maybe just maybe you will be able to go 6 months without breaking something now

OOPS

Are you going to leave them full width?

Are you going to leave them full width?

I am going to leave them as is just because I dont want to deal with cutting them down or ruining these expensive things.

I dont want it super wide though, im hopeing those 17" wheels are more centered, instead of backspaced like my current wheels

Dingman.

Went and picked up my wheels/tires that i bought with the axle.  I measured them at 4.5" backspacing.  my current wheels are 3.5" bs.

So if my thoughts are correct, i now have toyota axles 58.5" wms with 3.5" bs wheels, i will be running tons at 69" wms with 4.5" bs wheels.  so i believe my tires will stick out 4.25" wider than they do now, at least with the 60.  3.25" wider in the rear with a 14 bolt?   I plan on getting 39.5" iroks.  So i will have the same width tire as now, more backspaced wheels, but wider axles.  :dunno:

Anyways here are the rollers/wheels i got now. bald 37" old school mtr's, on 17x9" steelies.

84t0y

very cool mike, I look forward to the progress

you finally have 37" mtrs  :outtahere:

Dingman.

I dont plan on running the 37"s.
I figure they will be good rollers/ mock up tires.

But who knows :dunno: i might run them as is for a little lol. Until i can afford other tires.
But Realistically my toyota wont leave the garage for the next year :(

86bobbedtoy

why the hell not? bust it out!

1985CRAWLER

those mtrs have a strange pattern in the center. my lugs werent connected like those they were separate in the center.lol

a year?whoa  :maddest:

this is gonna be sick when finished!
