Dingman.

Made some frame plates out of 1/4" steel.

Also decided to rip out my damn abs box,  don't know what im going to do for steering hoses now, might just order tg ones..
Disconnected everything and took the box out.

Bent an old brake line to make work.

Much nicer!

I get my hoses from http://www.hoseandfittingsetc.com/ I do not know about calling in an order to get shipped since I always just walk in and get what I need. I like to sue the re-buildable fittings, not the crimped on kind.

Another option.... http://www.tms-teegardenmotorsports.com/ I know they accept call in orders for shipping.

Thanks for the heads up, i just orderd a high pressure power steering hose off rock auto.  It was for a 1990 4runner v6, non abs. Came to be $26 shipped, so i will just buy some bulk hose from autozone or somewhere and then that should be taken care of.

I need to buy weld in bungs and either TRE's or heims, i am not sure what i am going to do, im thinking about just going TRE's.
I will also need to buy a flat pitman arm for 1ton ends.

I have been running heims for a little while not with no issue what so ever. Doubt I'll break the 3/4" bolt

Do you all think i can get away with my shocks like this or do i need to cut the mounts off and redo them?

If i cut the factory dana60 mount off and weld these on instead "i THINK" it should make the shock at least straight vertically.

86bobbedtoy

I think they would work either way.

Dingman.

Well cut that passenger side off and redid the mount on the axle.  Shock is verticle but slightly binds, a lot better than before.

Dingman.

Well my new small spring bushins should be here tomorrow (i only ordered large ones and those dont fit the rear of the springs or the shackle tubes).  So i will swap in new bushings with my new shackle bolts.

My non-abs power steering hose should be here tomorrow as well so i need to get on mounting my ifs box so i can wrap up the steering.  I think ive made up my mind and tomorrow i am going to call and order a flat pitman arm from tg and some 7/8" heims from ruffstuff.  I will just pull my steering arms BACK off and my knuckles and take them to the shop amd drill/ream them out for 3/4" bolt.

Maybe this weekend i can go get some stainless steel brake lines from pettersens, and wrap the front of the truck up.
I will probably have to wait to do hydro assist though, i really dont have the money for that now.

Dingman.

Went to swap out my spring bushings and it turns out i need like a 1/2"-1" longer 18mm bolt for my uppper shackle bushing.

But got some more parts today too

Dingman.

Got my front axle all torn apart AGAIN.  Going to take this all to work and ream the holes out on the mill.  I dont want wallowed out holes so i decided against drilling them by hand.

Other than that.  Tomorrow i will assemble my axle and try to mock up my steering but that will be hard until i mount my steering box.  I have a box full of new 7/8" heims for the steering, new pitman arm, new highpressure hose for the steering to eliminate the abs, new stainless braided brake lines, new bushings and all new 3/4" grade 8 bolts for the steering.

Got some work i gotta do!!!!!

zippo

You going to upgrade the steering cross bar?
If you see it, its for sale.

Dingman.

The tubing ill be using is 1.5" x .250 wall.  I have a stick that is like 58" so ill cut that down but ill need to order another piece of tube.

Once i get the holes drilled/reamed out to .750 i will put the front axle together and then bolt the heims on so i can get a more precise measurement of what length i need to cut the tubing to

Dingman.

I need to spend some time and make an ifs box mount/frame plate.  Once i get my flat pitman arm on then i can attempt to hold the box up to determine location it needs to be.

86bobbedtoy

that's always fun, get on it fool!!

Dingman.

Gonna put my front axle together right now and then i can mock up my steering..
Took my knuckles off and then Drilled my highsteer arms/kunckles out to 3/4" for the heims.  So off to put it all back together.

86bobbedtoy

if you were closer Id help ya out. I always ran flat arms, less stress on the box and frame,

Dingman.

Yup got a flat pitman arm also.  Machined it out at work!

Dingman.

Ordered tubing at work.  So ill have enough to make my steering links soon!

Dingman.

This is what my problem is now.  :hammer:

86bobbedtoy

notch the frame, I always did it, put half a 1" tube in it

Dingman.

i was thinking if i ran the nut on the top, and did that, it might save me a little clearance.
Tomorrow i should be getting the proper missalignment spacers (they sent me the stuff i needed with parts just for mock up) i don't know how much different in height the actual ones are.

But im thinking if i machine down the missalignments and some other stuff it will save me a little clearance.
I am also probably going to have to add a leaf or two to the front to lift it a little.

86bobbedtoy

you also don't need the lower offset ring, its not gonna flex that much, hell at that you don't need either, just a small 1/4" spacers, or a tre, but to late for that, I have a new 1 ton tre you could have

Dingman.

The only problem is the kit i bought came with :
2 - 7/8" X 7/8" RS H&C Chromoly Heims, 1 LH & 1 RH
2 - 7/8" X 3/4" RS H&C Chromoly Heims, 1 LH & 1 RH

So the 7/8 x7/8 heim are on the drag link and have the missalignment spacers that are basically sleeves that go inside the heim to allow it to run a 3/4" bolt instead of a 7/8" bolt.  That gives it more angle, i don't know how i feel about removing the sleeves and drilling it out to 7/8".  I might call ruff stuff and see if they can recommend something different, they have been absolutely great to work with so far.  I am not sure what i will end up doing yet though.

Sadly with such flat springs you are S.O.L.

I was in the same boat with I installed my fj80 front, I've just lived with it. My springs are not as flat and I have not had an issue. They will most likely suggest you stick with the "high missalignment" that they sent you.

Dingman.

I was thinking a lot of it had to do with the fact i lowered my rig and the springs are flatter.  I pulled two leafs from that backyard that came with a 4" all pro set.  I might through them in (one leaf on each side in the front) since they are pretty arched and somewhat stiff.  hopeing that may help my clearance issues.

86bobbedtoy

well you could run a aircraft locknut instead of the nylock, that would give you a 1/4", and cut the spacers in half. that should give you 3/4-1"

Dingman.

turned one of the missalignments down at work.  waiting on the saftey missalignmnets that should be here tomorrow, will try to turn that down a little to, but un sure if it will work. overall that will save me just under 3/4".  gonna add a leaf i have to try and lift it a little.

Dingman.

Okay here is the deal i swapped the piece out that is pictured on the right for the full leaf on the left.  Only got the driver side done tonight, will swap the leaf out on the passenger side tomorrow.

this made my spring pack a bit stiffer.  here is my new clearance (estimated under the bolt to the leaf now)  easily gave me 3x+ the clearance.

Will still barely clear the frame with the bolt head

Drag link and tie rod are damn near parallel

Yet somewhow the driver side is now lower than the passenger side
