Dingman.

I have been looking at diff covers. I am thinkin about getting solid covers.  Hard to beat $65 with bolts and rtv

Dingman.

Got some progress done this weekend.
My free skys hanger started like this

made a new frame

old vs new.

had to ratchet strap the frame back to the correct width since it spread a little when i cut the frame off.  (forgot that would happen)

Dingman.

I still need to pick up metal so i can fish plate all the sides of the frame i just welded back on.  then a few for gussets and need to figure out what to do with my body mounts also.

All my new stuff waiting to get assembled

and a new compressor since i sold my old one with my toyota arb (figured i would never afford another arb,  decided to get one anyways lol)

Dingman.

 Yes it did!  Thanks again!

The hanger was a little warped/bent.  Lol. I dont know if it was from the prior welding/ all the torching?
Whatever. Good enough.  Lol

Ended up drilling the shackles out to 3/4".  Drilled the bushings out too so it was a good fit.
Kinda dumb running 18mm at the shackle tube, 3/4" at the bottom leaf, and 9/16" up front.  But i will just sleeve those fromt bushings

Dingman.

My frame is a tiny bit narrower than a stock toyota frame, but regardless i dont really like how far the sky hanger ears hang out unsupported so i do want to gusset those.

Either weld two guesset triangles from it to the frame, or maybe find some square tubing and use that instead.  :dunno:

IronClad

Probably the combo of both. Good idea on the drilling out, funny enough i even drilled out the fronts because they come as 1/2" from sky with sleeves lol

Either or, could maybe even tie your bumper into it

man mike, lookin good. bet you cant wait to be back on the trail!

Dingman.

It feels like it has been a long time since i did anything with my truck.  Realistically i put it in the garage at the very beginning of February, so it has only been a little over a month, but it is driving me crazy not being able to just get in it and drive it if i want to.

Dingman.

got me some tires today!

also picked this guy up

sweet! where you at with getting the runner back on the road?

off the top of my head......

Still need to make a 60-toyota flange at work
Finish setting up my 60
Get axle home, reassemble, install under the truck.
once i decide if i like the shackle angle/axle location i can weld the hanger on and plate guesset the frame.
Decide on what steering i want, buy it, install it.
Hopefully buy/install hydro assist.
remove abs control box off passenger frame rail.
buy u-bolts/ubolt plates for the front end.
bumpstops.
brake lines.

buy a 14bolt/gears/locker/etc.
make 14 bolt to toyota flange/setup gears
brakes.

redo  drivelines.

So basically i still have to do Everything :(
it will take awhile because i need to save money for it while paying all my other bills.

My buddy normally makes these and i went down and helped him make a set and prep parts for more.

I cannot believe how time consuming they are lol i guess i just didnt realize because i have never made sliders/bent tube, and welded them all up before.  I think these things are sweet though i would have bought a pair if scott was making them back then.  Prefer them way over the tg ones i bought years ago.

HogCanyonHopper

those are some nice lookin sliders! me rikey  :yesnod:

damn mike! I expected the runner to be done by now!! you must be getting fat or old, for me its both... I cant ever seem to get :pokinit: done      oh yeah money money money we need it to do anything.                                                     oh and scottys sliders are way sick Id recomend them over anyothers ive seen

Dingman.

Haha i dont have the money to finish mine right now so it is on hold

Dingman.

Made a little bit of progress.

Finally got my axle setup(still waiting to make a dana60-toyota flange at work though).  I figured out the pack i threw in under the truck is actually 3rd gen rears and i need 2nd gens i believe.  my shackle is compressed back far enough it is hitting the body mount and i do not know how much further it would want to go.  I need to get a 2nd gen pack and see if that is how i want it before i weld on the front hanger all the way.  Plus it is sitting way too tall for my liking and i want to lower it some, not exactly how sure i am going to achieve that.  And before you ask, yes there is ratchet straps holding the axles to the leafs.  it is sitting on jackstands though as of now not just on the springs.  Ghetto, i know.  i just didn't have any ubolts laying around.

Bringing it home

Sitting on its own weight (way too tall imo)

Things i need:
2nd gen rear packs.
ubolts/plates
studs for the passenger side ubolt plate
steering arms/tre's/tubing
dana60-toyota flange
metal to plate the frame
brake lines
hydro assist

Everything for the rear.........

86bobbedtoy

Dingman.

Got a set of 2nd gen rear springs from Mike today so i will be swapping out those 3rd gens soon to see if i will like my shackle angle better with those.

ryantowry_81

I think you need to French that front hangar in and get some leaf spring slider boxes or build some and that should pick you up a couple inches lower.

Or flatter springs and let it go somewhat negative at bump, that is how I got my 2nd gen to go lower with. Shackle still.

Dingman.

i need to play with the leaf packs to find a setup that i want to use because that is obviously too high.  But the shackles were resting on the body mount so i wonder how much of an effect that will make in the height.

I am planning on swapping to that 2nd gen rear spring packs with less leafs and seeing what that does to height and shackle angle and then i will decide the next step from there.

do it! from what i saw it looks like they will work better, use the top 3 and add like 3 to the pack and see where it sits. should be lower for sure.
