I guess its about time for me to make a build thread.  So here it goes...

Ive done a bit to it since i got it but herwes a recap.

I own a 1990 toyota 4runner.  I bought it with 240,000 miles on it stock as can be. 3.0, 5 speed.

Now we did have a problem the day we got it on the way home...
The damn 3.0 had a fuel fire...  A minor setback.  Got it running a little while afterward.

So i removed the running boards and thats all i did for a little.
I did some wheeling like that for a while and then i decided i just wanted something to build up.

Threw some 33's on it and a rear locker and called it good..
I had a problem with the rear diff for the 2nd time after a local guy built it so after that i decided to regear it (5.29's) and sent it out to zuk to have it built so i wouldn't have to worry about it again.
I ended up putting an ifs lift on it.   :dunno:

Regretted that decision and about 3 months ago i sas'd it..
During the build i found a locked front diff so i picked it up and used a 4" sas kit.

Got sick of the 33's and got some 36's.

I need to still convert the rear to leafs...  Which was gonna be my next mod, but other things came up..

As of now...   The 3.0 finally took a :pokinit: on me after 258,000 miles on it..  I managed to only get 18,000 miles out of it since i got it, but overall i don't think it was a horrible run for a 3.slow that never had the head gaskets replaced...

So i bought something to replace it..  which i am working on gathering information on exactly what needs to be done.

Dingman.

Okay for this 3.4 swap..

I purchased the motor, wiring harness, and ecu.  Well basically everything out of the engine compartment.
This all came out of a 99' tacoma, auto, 4x4 package.

I know i will need to get:
99 tacoma 3.4 M/T  ecu,
charcoal canister as the donor one broke.

Thats all i know of thus far.

I believe i can resuse the 3.0:
flywheel,
clutch,
oil pan,
radiator,
fan and shroud.

Anything else im forgetting?
Im not absolutely positive about reusing the 3.0 flywheel, can someone verify?

the 3.0 pan will work but its a mid sump pan for the ifs....with the straight axle you might need the rear sump pan to clear your steering....the swap we did the truck still has ifs so the original pan worked.

TIMS89CRAWLER

ORS is out of business.... even if they werent they were wayyyyy over-priced for EVERYTHING especially wiring harnesses..... dont wast your time with all that crap man..... do some research on the boards and if you need help with anything specific just ask me man..... its really an easy swap though you will be just fine....

Is your Runner gonna be outside the whole time?
It's gonna suck if it's raining all the time when your trying to work on your rig.
Let me know when you have free time to work on it, and I'll try and come help you out.

Yeah, errbody does the driveway work. It would be nice to have some indoors for getting all that wiring figure out. If not... start settin' up the tarps!

This is what i got done today.

Now im tearing down the 3.0L motor in the garage..  gonna try to tear it down quite a bit..  Im going to get a new flywheel/ and clutch components for the 3.4, so i can't put the motor back in untill then, i don't get paid until Monday or Tuesday so hopefully next week i can at least get the motor back in.

lol.

I spent 800 on the motor and everything related to it from the donor truck..
I am going to get a new flywheel/clutch assembly..  I think mine is still good but i don't want to have to do it again later.
and i will have to buy a M/T ecu since the one i have is for a automatic trans..

Once i get the flywheel and clutch parts im going to put the motor in and then i can worry about the wiring.

TIMS89CRAWLER

you want to use the 3.0 clutch and flywheel..... as for the ECU just get the same year ECU as your engine in the manual trans version and the plugs should be the same.... my buddy got one from the local wrecking yard and the plugs were different but after some research we realized the wrecking yard gave us the wrong ecu.... they made it right with us and the proper year ecu plugged right in to his engine harness.... let me know if you have any questions regarding the wiring.... I will grab my notes from my buddies place and take some pics of the splices we made as well....looking good though bro!

Yea thats what i was thinking..

Do you know if that will make the pedal a lot stiffer?

On a side note im going to buy a welder tomorrow, so i can start on my exhaust, sliders, bobbing a buddy's rig and converting mine to Chevy in the rear..

Any suggestions on a welder.  I don't really want to spend more than 500..."
I was thinking either the lincoln 125  $430, or the lincoln 140 $530.

Im going to swing by mjb welding tomorrow to see what they have though.

i drove by the other day to see if you were workin on the beast, the day you worked on the motor but no one was around  :dunno:

That's sick you are getting a welder.
I would say just resurface your flywheel unless it is warped. Heck dude you could resurface it down in machine shop.
