On the runners the link geometry sucks balls especially when lifted, it will like to push you over in off camber spots.  going to leafs or redoing the links will help ALOT but  they are still top heavy as hell  and will still be prone to tippin over.

Word hard, Keep your head in the game and if anyone gets in your way tell them you don't give a damn !

boggerunner

ive got leafs on mine, and its still top heavy, the roof rack doesnt help either.

Goose

You could do something like the mossyrocks runner, even though its a 3rd gen.
Its been my plan to do this since before i ever bought the runner..
But im gonna do a bit fuller of an exo..
Its basically a double cab with a really short bed..

dang the flop only happened two days ago and its already old news haha. anyway mike those chopped runners look sick, but i think id try and trade for a truck instead. but if no luck there then maybe chop it. I just wont say anything at all, thats kinda what got ya into this in the first place lol.

Dingman.

I really hate the way it drives, there is too much body roll IMO.

I think a lot of it has to do with the land cruiser coils in the back which i am planning on getting rid of as soon as i get some cash. I have a set of 63" chevys in my garage waiting. Im just wondering if leafs will make a difference in stability, or not.

I am also seriously weighing chopping the top of it, but i have asked a few people and they tell me that doesn't have much of an effect on it either.

So at the moment i am thinking getting some leafs under the back, and keeping an eye out for some wider wheels/tires to see if that would help. Also some better/stiffer shocks

No I am not going to go full widths at the moment, cause i don't like them for 1, and for two ive put a bit of money into these toy axles already.

So anyone have any suggestions? Other than lowering my rig, or full widths, cause i don't feel its too tall and im not swap axles at the moment.

wampum

Man, I don't think I'd ever chop up a 4Runner like that, especially if it doesn't help with the body roll. Try out leaf springs and stiffer shocks before you head that direction. Plus, you won't be able to sleep in the back if you chop it.
You should definitely cut your fenders though.

Yea i hear you kevin... i do like the looks though..

I kinda want to chop it...  HAHA..

yota_krawler

I didnt think I needed a 4runner either, but today we went to the lake and could actually invite people to ride with us. It was kinda cool. Its nice to have the option. I can pull out the roll bar, drop the rear seat and I have a pickup (kinda) or can seat 3 in the rear seat... thats why I wanted a 4runner.

Dingman.

Oh yea i hear you cody.

I just don't usually drive with anyone. I don't take people wheeling since we all have our own rigs. Im pretty sure two seats would be good enough..  I do like the chopped 4runner look though so i might do that.  then i still have the option to seat 5 if needed, and depending on how i do the back will determine storage situations.  I do like the flat bed looking design, but i also like the looks of some of the chops where they leave the stock side pannels.

Goose

I just did my leafs in the rear of my runner..
63 inch chevies, sucker rides like a cadillac..

Cutting out all the stock link crap is no fun, especially the passenger side upper coil mount..
watch out for those brake lines up there   :headshake:

if you need any help lemme know

Thanks man.

What did you use for cutting all that crap?

Also with the leafs back there does it seem more stable?

I used my plasma cutter, but some of the crap was still hard to cut out..
Its hard to say weither its more stable or not cause i never really wheeled on the stock coils..
but i would imagine it is,  wheeling any link setup without a sway bar is risky. especially off camber stuff.
Shocks play a big role too in keeping your suspension from unloading on you and throwing you on your side.
and I havent mounted my rear shocks yet  :ack:

I built my own hangers for $15 in steel, you can see them half way down the pics...
Im only running like a 1.5" "block" witch is just stacked and welded pieces of an overload spring.
Also, leave the overload on the chevy pack, but torch the rear half of it off just behind the spring hanger, this lets it act as an anti-wrap, and gives you a lil lift, all without limiting flex.
I havent uploaded the photos of putting this setup under the runner yet cause im stuck to dialup net for right now.

Lemme know if you need any help

okay.  And don't forget to think about that bender.

And the future Friday's wrenching days.

Dingman.

Or we could do this..

You buy the bender soon, and ill buy the die at the same time???  Something like that maybe.  That way we each have a piece to the bender, and later on we each just have to buy the other part to have our own..

IDK
