Dingman.

Yup...........

Cannot make forward progress on the motor..
Was going to get the damn sliders welded on too so i could get them off the garage floor.
And i was going to weld the custom crossover, but cannot do any welding now because it freaking rained.

Gonna order my clutch kit tomorrow and swap the pans and get the motor in the truck soon.

Dingman.

Im going to go with the 3.0 pan.

I was told by various people who have done the swap, that if the pan fit with the 3.0 it will work with the 3.4.

So i have to drill the hole for the dipstick, but don't have the bit and no ride to the hardware store..

Hey dont know if youve been to this site yet, but its a clean rundown of the basic stuff you need for a 3.4 swap..
Ive got some other sites and info too if you need any help.
Ive got a 4runner too with a limping motor, and as soon i find a wrecked taco for the motor im doin my swap..

Heres some writeups from people that have done swaps, it takes some searching and browsing, but alot of questions i had i found in these...

it looks a little crooked, but its fine.. pounded in the dipstick guide already.

Dingman.

Don't mind the dirty ass 3.0 dip stick guide..
i have a new one waiting, that was just for test fitting..

Dingman.

Okay i still need a tap so i can plug the hole the original dipstick left in the block then i can swap the oil pans....

Or i could leave both dipsticks just for the laughs......

wampum

Slider (lol) is looking dope bro. So is the front bumper.
You pretty happy with them?

Dingman.

Yea they are pretty cool!

Just got the 3.0 oil pan on...
Not too happy with how the new dipstick is connected to the block..  I think it will be fine, but we will see.

(for now i have two dipsticks until i can get a plug for the original dipstick location! :Gap:  (i don't have a ride anywhere so i couldn't go get one....)

Now im going to start on the crossover.....

Nice looking 2nd gen 4runner man. I like it, going to be sweet with a 3.4 in it  :driving:

Dingman.

Kind of a PITA since it was raining all day but i got it done to this point..

Gonna go pick up some supplies from walmart tonight and hopefully get some stuff put in place and start on the wiring..
I have a deadline until tuesday.   I can borrow the car on monday!  :gap:

Dingman.

Thank you...

Well the motor found its new home!  :gap:

(for now)

LIST:::::::::::

Pull off intake plenum and rotate Fuel line,
Clean plenum when it is off,
Exhaust from the crossover back,
Cut the support off the hood and see if it helps clearance(otherwise cut hole in hood),
Put things under the hood, (radiator, air box, battery,
Place all the wires under the hood,
splice all the wires under the dash that are needed for the swap.
Get the upper two tranny bolts back on.
install Starter,
fill with fluids,
place resistor on back of tach to make it work properly,
swap oil pressure sending unit,
install 3.0 fan/shroud assembly.
Throttle cable,
Swap battery locations (possibly build battery tray)
connect all hoses/vacuum lines.
Make sure all the motor mounts/tranny bolts are torqued down.
Install other slider.

I think that covers it all.
I may print this out for something to work with tomorrow..
Holy :pokinit: i didn't think there was that much left, but im sure i missed a few things too....
(hopefully i can get it done tomrrow)

Dingman.

Right now i just took off the intake pleunm and rotated the fuel lines..

Not to anybody doing this swap..  rotate the lines before you put the motor in...   :hammerhead:

So now im looking to see if i can find a diagram of what coolant/vacuum lines go where.  then i will connect the hoses and get the intake plenum back on...  THen i can hopefully finish some other stuff..

Dingman.

Its getting there.  hopefully only a few more days....

nice mike! what a pimp! do you have a body lift yet? i think a 2" would help clear the motor from the hood

Dingman.

Nah im not going to lift it anymore..  The only lift will be from bigger tires in the future..

I think it might be okay if i leave it.. otherwise ill have to cut a very small hole in the hood and get a ghey hood scoop.
Anyone good with body work that wants to help me out with that when the time comes?

Thomas P

ive done hood scoops before, but i think you could really benefit from a body lift since you have that big ol motor! it gives you more space to work and will lift the hood off your motor sky sells a 1" for $90

Dingman.

Yea idk ill think about it.. my hood closes fine now.. slight contact but i think it wasn't the plenum but some bracket that i moved..

my stupid crossover i made is going to need some more work
its angled at the frame, so im either going to have to do something with that or modify the lower part that bolts to it somehow...

Dingman.

And yea one reason i don't want to body lift it is i think its at the perfect height now.

Plus i got a bumper that won't line up anymore, sliders that will be too low.. etc..

"bout tree fiddy"

Dingman.

thanks guys..

I didn't get too much done on it last night..
Got the starter in, the radiator in, and im going to try to eliminate the ac lines since they seem just to be in the way (my ac hasn't worked since i got it).

Hopefully when i get home today i can get some more stuff done.. I still need to figure out what to do with a couple coolant lines in the back of the engine bay. and have to run some wiring...
