Nope - still nothing new........ What can I say, I can't live in the garage everyday. But I did install a BHAF and make a heat shield on my dodge. Then the wife had a girls weekend and I had my daughter, when means no fab'n in the garage. but I did buy and plant a bunch of fruit trees in my yard. Then I worked on my neighbors bag'd mazda lowrider filling holes and welding on a roll pan so he can get it off to the body shop. and the last couple days I bought a Sidekick (new DD) and sold my wife's buick... and in between all of that I got our taxes figured out and mailed. Anyways - I'll be back out in the garage shortly.

You're seriously into this Suzuki thing, now!!!

Now just buy your daughter a little Suzuki 50 bike, and you'll each have one!

any plans for having this ready for the tinbenders jambo?

4RnrRick

Its not going to happen for the Tin Benders event this year....

  Rick,

You might want to step it up and really try to make the Benders run. If the Marines get their way the Hammers will be off limits in the near future. It doesn't look good for the off roader. So this might be the last one!!  :rivers: :rivers: :rivers:  I know you are banned from the pbb but check it over there (when you can).
`87 runner....it was stock....now sas'd, 37's, duals, geared/ locked, 10in bob, half doors, rock lights. etc., etc.,.........coming soon a 3.4 swap!!!

Yes - I know about it. I sent off several personal letters several days ago to hopefully key personnel in the goverment stating my concerns and voiceing my opinoins - HAVE YOU (meaning anyone reading this thread)? I also got Camo to post up the "USMC Land Acquisition.pdf" on the PBB servers. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7973747&postcount=93   Heck I live 1000 miles north of the hammers in Oregon and have only been there once. and when I did go, I picked up two truck loads of garbage and donated $50 to the Tin Benders - not bad for an out of Stater, right? Anyways, I'm just saying that just because I'm band from posting on PBB, doesn't mean I'm not involved. And I hope you guys that are more local to the area do atleast what I have done.....

Got the front driveline built out of 2 1/2" schedule 40 pipe! Man this thing is short at 24.5" - I guess I'm just too use-to 36-42" drivelines of my old dual case toyota's...

I'm a bit concerened about the heat from the exhaust down pipe going into the front u-joints!!! seems like its just going to cook the grease right out of my double cardan u-joint caps!!! it just clears by 1/8" right now. So I will probably have to redo my exhuast to increase the gap and add a heat shield in there because its way too close for my liking!

But one thing I do like is how high everything is and out of harms way!

Meant to say something earlier about your welding sickness. I'm no expert, but had read that it is dangerous to weld aluminized  steel. I always make sure I have a lot of ventilation when messing with it. And I avoid galvanized completely.

Hammers - When you are out there on a big weekend you can pull trash all day long! When you are out there on a normal weekend trash is much more in check. Similar to popular Oregon areas. Last weekend I was at TDS and was constantly picking up trash. It was really annoying. It was really windy, and trash was blowing through our camp. Well, I discovered one of the sources Sunday afternoon after most of the people had left... There were a bunch of huge open top dumpsters up wind from our camp.  :shake:  So people were tossing their trash, but it was blowing out.

Project is looking good.

Hey Rick on your heat issue; I am not sure of what coating you applied to your exhaust tube there but in the past when I had tight spots like that I have run a combo of ceramic coating to prevent rust and exhaust wrap. I have also used the kevlar/nomex blend sleeves that you buy to put on your arms from the tool trucks and part stores. They slide over 2.25"-2.5" tube and fit tight then you just secure the ends with hose clamps to keep them from moving around..
Just my  :twocents:

Ceramic coatings are not going to help.. They drop temps something like 15 degrees. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The wraps are not going to work for Rick in his wet environment.

That Tacoma motor does put out a lot of heat into the pipe. Even with header wrap it will melt a shoe when just cruising down the road. Toyota keeps that motor pretty lean.

Wayne,
That is why you mix the 2 you coat the tube and then wrap it. I live in south Louisiana and I have not had any problems with wraps causing rust as long as used in conjunction with a coating.

Finally decided to use a 3/4" hiem on the steering. And once I got my 3/4 to 5/8 reducers with a safety washer and a nut, the stack up was just to much and it would it the tire when turning right. So my solution was to have a this piece made up which is internally threaded so it gives me the clearance I need. When I install it for the final time - I'm going to cross drill it on the wrench flats and use a cotter pin through it so it can't come loose.

The odd ball Tie Rod end (TRE) is from a Toyota FJ-55 or 60? Landcruiser (Napa #269-2716 ~$25), same as FJ-80 taper with 23 mm LH threads. But unfortionately the cross hole is tapered about 1mm too large.

4RnrRick

Then I set the body back on the chassis and cut out the floor for my driveline clearance. I'm going to make a removeable access panel here for accessing the carrier bearing mount and the front driveline bolts.

4RnrRick

And then I decided to roll it outside and get some new mock up shots of it since I needed to determine my tire clearance so I could set my wheel base for when I make my rear suspension. Yes - I know my pinoin angle sucks, its just mock up.....

4RnrRick

The pictures are shown with it at full compression with 16.5" under the center of the frame to the ground and 107" WB with 39.5 Iroks on 15x10 rims. Mini truck toyota front axle with no wheel spacers, IFS Toyota rear axle with no wheel spacers. I'm planning on 5" of up travel which will make my belly height 21.5".
