True that ... june-september is all you get for the dry if that

4RnrRick

Not to mention during that time (Late June, July, August & early Sept) is fire season around here and they restrict and/or close down forest travel.

Actually I would like to make a exhaust manifold oven for this eventually..... but I've got way too many other things to figure out before I do that.

As for the lunch cooker, I recall the exhaust manifold cooker thread on Pirate.  USMCdoc14 had the pimpin'est one.  Roc Doc had a great, simple one made out of a SS spaghetti noodle canister with a latching lid.

I was all stoked to build one like USMCdoc14's, then I saw Roc Doc's, and I couldn't bring myself to build a fancy one, when a $5 Target one would look good and do the same thing!

Got a good start on the Oil Pan Skid plate tonight. I'm basically building a mini cage (out of 1" x .065 wall sq tube) around the oil pan and then I'm going to plate the bottom of it. The reason I'm building a oil pan skid is because at full compression, the bottom of the pan is actually about 1/2" lower than the axle tubes! Which btw is also lower than the bottom surface of the suspension links. And I'm sure if I don't protect it - a sharp rock will end up giving me a REALLY bad day out on the trail.

I'm actually surprised at how much I got done considering I had to build it on the motor one piece at a time and under the chassis - wish I would have thought how low the oil pan was going to be when I had the motor out! Would have been way easier to build it on the engine stand!

i'd put one more brace in the middle, rick.. so the sheet metal cant give too much.
my opinion  i  think thats a great idea though.

man this thing is going to be pretty much bulletproof

I would have liked to, but I can't, theres no room... But I might be able to make that area double thickness, but I'm not sure on that yet. Plus if it dents up the skid plate right there, who cares. Seriously, dents are okay as long as it doesn't completely crush in.

You can see here how I'm matching the bottom profile of the T-100 oil pan. to get a crossmember in there I would have had to bring that front leading edge WAY forward which I just didn't like the look of.

MiniSimp

What about a 1"x3/16" flatbar right at the apex and then weld it to the plate.
