Found my new rear diff inspection / fill plug at lunch today. Its a #16 SAE weld-on bung and hollow hex plug with o-ring. I got it for about $15 from a local hose and coupling store.

you guna recess it into the housing?

Not really. I'm just using Toyota bumpstops for the back and had to space them down 1" with a piece of tube that I welded a couple nuts on the inside and then capped off.

Duffil

holy crap. How much room do you have in between the accessories and radiator?  Looks real tight in there. any room for a shroud?

4RnrRick

#759
I've got like 1" between the mechanical fan and the radiator. WAY more than that between the pulleys and the radiator, probably a good 3.5" - 4". You just don't see that in the pictures.  I never had a shroud on Quasimodo and I never had any cooling isues, so I don't expect any here. BUT If I do need a shroud, then I have plenty of room to make one.

Just out of curiosity how come you went with a mech. fan over electric?
Life is too short!!!   Do something with it!!!

Awesome work Rick

Do you use a fan shroud? Perhaps custom made? Please make it soon because i have to make one for my tow rig and I`m looking for ideas  :cheese:

cut a 3in band of sheet metal out... and tack into a circle a little bigger then the fan.
then cover the rest of the radiator with sheetmetal and tack the two together.

Actually a rotary york is alot smaller than a standup york.( ref: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3059781&postcount=5 ) Rotary compressors need a inline oiler for lubrication, the stand up yorks have a oil sump inside them. I had factory AC and a Rotary York in my 4Runner with a 22RE, then when I installed the 7M-GE I swapped in a standup york, Quasimodo (my last rig) had this same York that I'm using here.

Basically got the flat belly skid plate done tonight...

Its made from 3/16" plate re-enforced with 1" x .065 wall sq tube. I have the edges overlapping the front and rear lower link mount crossmembers and each frame rail, so is should handle upward impacts really good.

Because of that, I felt it wouldn't need much to hold it in place, so I'm countersinking some 1/4" socket heads through it and welded some angle iron to the inside edge of the crossmeber and frame rails. The square 1/4" nuts will eventualy be welded in place.

I also weighed it as you see it and it tipped the scales at 37 lbs... Nice.........

For now I'm going to leave it like you see it, if I have problems with crap building up ontop of it, I will have to add some drain holes - but for now I like the smooth bottom.

COToy91

Wher did you buy your inline oiler from, my ARB just died so i am rethinking my OBA

I don't see it being a problem unless you submerge it in a mud bog.
The drivers side of the belly could be turned in to a nice emergency spare parts bin (stuff you hardly ever break, but nice to have if you do).
Now, let the rainbow party continue!

Obviously you haven't wheeled in Oregon much.... Probably 8 months of the year there is mud on the trails. As for parts bin - are you crazy! If the water didn't rust the parts into pile of crap, the Catalytic converter would melt them...
