2000 3rz - this is THE motor that was in Quasimodo.

Just think if I could do 60mph at the hammers with a cloud of dust on my butt (oops sorry mike), how much fun will it be in a rig that is 1000 lbs lighter and has coilovers!....)   :driving:

But lately with the snow failing everyday and the new MC Arcade, I can't seem to get anything done on in the garage.

Well after messing with a tape measure and the 3 link calculator for a while, this is "about" what I'm going to shoot for with my front axle suspension. no point in getting really detailed with it right now since stuff ALWAYS changes when you actually build it. But this is the general idea and location for my links.

Got the upper link mount on the axle torched out and cleaned up and tacked to the axle. You can also see I'm making it with adjustment holes. I was hoping for more seperation at the axle, but this will have to do.

And here you can see how high and tight I'm going to have to put the upper link. with both link ends in the highest holes on teh mounts, I have about 1/8" clearance between the link and the mount mount. Not to mention I'm really close to the clutch slave cylinder and fork.

I was shooting for a link mount design like this, but it just sticks too far off the frame rail. If I did something like this - I wouldn't have room to remove the bolt without removing the tranny. So thats NOT going to work. But I could shorten the link up about 5" and put the bolt right infront of the bellhousing, but I'm afraid with the upper link that short, my pinoin angle would change too much when the axle droops out. So I'm going to leave it where its at, but recessing it into the frame rail so I have bolt clearance.

rick, wny more shots of the tires??? and do you like them for street use as well??

PRetty tight fit for that upper link!!  Lookin cool!  I wasnt sure but on the diagram looks like your only going to have one upper link?

No. there just tires.......

Iroks are NO street tire.... Then again I have driven to the Rubicon and back (8 hours one way) on Iroks. probably lost 1/8" of tread on that one trip!

Yeap = 3 link plus panhard. theres no room for a upper link on the passenger side or a triangulated four link with how close the motor is at full compression.

skipnrocks

Are you runnin your panhard in frontof the axle to keep everything tucked up?

Do you have room for the radius arm (i think its called) where there is an upper axle link and lower on the same controll arm with a panhard?  Im sure you know what your doin just fine, I was just wonderin about all the rotational stress being absorbed by one upper link on one side of the axle.

Rick,
You could weld a 3/4" AllThread rod coupling in to your frame and just eliminate the nut from the equasion. You would have to put the bolt in from the transmission side of the link mount though. I can't tell how much room is between the tranny and frame in that pic.

You sir, ask some silly questions......... yes - its the yellow line.

Radius arms suck, they give you no tune ability and huge AntiSquat numbers. while they work, they are far from ideal.

Thats kinda what I got planned., but I'm just going to use regular nuts welded to the inside of the fish plate that will get welded flush to the inside of the frame rail.

Looking awesome.

Just wonder what your thoughts are on them heim joint rod ends? I've just heard that they're not rebuildable like the cartridge-style joint (johnny joint). How durable do you feel they are? Just looking for opinions on them. TIA

The rebuildable and adjustable Flexxx Joints IMO and far supperior to a hiem. I'm kinda using a mix of both because I got some of these 1 1/4" hiems for dirt cheap. And I'm building my mounts to use either - or (2 5/8 wide X 9/16 bolt). So when these large hiems get sloppy, I can then upgrade them all to the Flexx Joints. So basically the joints you see me using is just me pinching some penny's and using what I got around instead of using all NEW parts. Just like I'm going to build my lower links solid ( non adjustable) to same some money on threaded inserts and nuts. Then later down the road and can swap them out if need be as stuff wears.

Sorry, in the pic you posted the yellow dot representing the panhard side view is dirrectly over the mount for your upper link, which would obviousely be dirrectly on top the axle.  And with no axle representation in the drawing I was just makin sure I had a valid pic in my head.  But in the future I will try and refrain from askin silly questions.

I think that is the instant center you are looking at.
The panhard is not really visible from the side view.

4RnrRick

The yellow diamond is actually your "Roll Center".

Had a pretty lazy weekend but I did manage to get the upper link frame mount done....

Great idea. I'll have to remember this (if needed) when I get around to linking mine.

Yet another waisted evening in the garage!  :shake_head:

Somehow I ran out of gas for my MIG and both bottles for my cutting torch were were empty... Never had that happen before - So I had to haul all 3 bottles off to get filled - $90 later I'm back in business.

But I did manage to get two cedar trees planted in the yard!

Got started on the front Lower Link crossmember tonight. It was a major PITA drilling the frame for the sleeves since the outside was double wall with a small gap between the two plates!

Then after that my hole saw died while I was about 1/2 through this gusset plate....

It should look pretty much like my rear crossmember by the time I'm done.

You can also see that it just clears the tranny.

And having these two solid cross members will make for a nice starting structure for the flat belly.

And since I'm going to be running a two piece front driveline - I ordered up the billet carrier bearing mount from www.HendrixMotorsports.com today also...
