Its not that bad, its just messy... Just be prepared to devote your entire driveway or garage to all the oil, grease, rags, parts and hardware you will need to keep organized... Oh and be prepared to feel like you jumped in a gritty, dirty pool with all your clothes on at the end of each day...haha yea this heat has been killer....wasnt too bad today though

Haha wish I had a garage to do it in. I get to wrench in the gravel :(

I've done it before but its not something I really look forward to

Well, I got everything reassembled today...just need to fill her up with gear oil after work and break in those front gears.  I have never spent so much time on one thing and had so little to show for it afterward.  I mean I know that its going to be nice just the fact that I replaced all the trunion and wheel bearings and such...but DAMN...I probably have a full days worth of  work to go just cleaning everything up and putting all the tools away.  Oh well it was an educational process if nothing else... By the way, I was planning on breaking in the front by warming everything up with the hubs locked in 2 hi...then with them unlocked in 4 hi..is this right???  I had heard this will address both the coast and the drive side of the gears...

82juguete

So I did as stated above, got the gears all warmed up and then let them cool down overnight...but while driving I noticed a noise which sounded like it was coming from the transfer case up through the shifter hole, but my guess is it could be the diff, d-shaft, or case, and its just transfering up through the case... Anyway its not a really nasty grinding or anything, just like a pulsing clack/hum that is easier to hear when theres a roadside curb or a wall for the sound to bounce off of.  And it only starts above about 30 mph.  Any ideas or ways to further investigate???  I dont quite have the courage to take it up to that speed and hang out the door to listen where exactly the noise is originating... :disturbed:

Driveshaft is fairly new and never had problems before... Same with tcase so I am thinking its gear related... but its not the typical whine that ive heard improperly preloaded gears make...??? Help would be appreciated

82juguete

ok then.... onto another question...
Im going to make some calls tomorrow but does anyone have an estimate on what a shop here in the fresno area would charge to inspect a 3rd and correct anything that looks like it may be causing the rattling sound when I engage 4wd???  I know itll prob be BANK but i dont know of any other options right now

make 100% sure its not your front driveshaft before you take it anywhere. my old stock round one used to make some weird noises, theres a dust cover over the splines that comes loose sometimes.  on mine, you couldnt tell the dust cover was loose by touching it, it only came loose and made noise when i was going down the road in 4x4, so i didnt figure it out for a looong time. i always though my t-case was gonna blow up because my driveshafts spline dust cover was whirring and clicking and grinding. then one day it fell off and the noise disappeared! then it proceeded to make a square shaft lol talk about noise

Thanks.  I think i will remove the front dshaft, THEN drive in 4hi, and then try 2hi with the hubs locked....That should determine if the shaft is the problem, if the noise stops.. I hope its that simple and not the gears... Wouldnt a gear problem be a constant noise while im in any kind of motion, and not just happen over a certain speed??

REally need to do an update on my truck, but me and my cousin ran Bald last weekend, and camped saturday night.  Only Got a few cell phone pics, as no one thought to bring a camera, we had a blast though....

Sunset was awesome at the tower...

It was a lot of fun...nothing too crazy but it was nice to take my truck out and let it stretch its legs a little.  Didnt have a single problem with anything I tried...I was satisfied with how it performed.  Even the carb did ok on some steep inclines and the fact that we were up around 7500 feet!

dude from the outside your truck looks a whole lot like mine.  thats a badass sunset picture.

Quick update...Got some almost new 35" procomp mts

82juguete

Heres some recent pics of my truck... got a little partial exo action going on since last time i posted, not sure if im done yet... had to get a little creative to allow the toolbox to open freely

Also, I built the little bedcage/spare carrier awhile back, but i built these shockmounts, and popped the shocks through the bedfloor not too long ago.  I like a closer to 1:1 ratio on my shocks for optimum dampening.

Oh and those studs with wingnuts are to hold my hi-lift right behind the tool box, but it mysteriously walked off one day... :shakehead:

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

Engine stopped running, drained oil, found coolant...lots of coolant.

block and head are being machined as we speak, block .020 over, crank polished, the works.

Got my master rebuild kit from engnblder last week...along with the 261c cam.

Should be a strong little motor when all said and done  but i miss driving it!  All for the better, now ill have a fresh motor when i start at cal poly fall semester...

82juguete

But you know me, not one to sit on my hands while my engine is at the shop, i started working on this...
