"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

After about 4 months the engine blew its head gasket and i parked it for almost six months until i bought a rolled 86 extra from a friend and swapped its drivetrain into my 4runner.

The stripped donor truck

old drivetrain...

interesting. i am in the process of swapping a 22rte turbo from a TRUCK into my 4runner. i was wondering how come the truck harness didn't work in the 4runner? aren't they pretty much exactly the same from the doors forward?

with the truck harness you dont have any of the connectors for the 4runner rear window controls, other than that is virtually the same.

right now im running 5in all pro front springs but they are very worn out and sagging, and soon to be replaced with a new set of alcans.  as for the rear im running chevys with 4in lift blocks and dual shackles, but that is getting changed too, removing the blocks and the dual shackles in favor of a long single shackle for better and more predictable ride.

Got a few things done yesterday, diff armor welded on front and rear, moved the rear spring shackle mount back to the end of the frame, removed the dual shackles, ( those were scary as hell when we took them off, i couldnt beleive they hadnt fallen apart before...)
we replaced them with a super long shackle temporarily because we ran out of time, but the plan is the remove the lift blocks and use the long shackle.
also pressure washed the engine bay... wow what a difference.

the end of the frame is going to be boxed and a brace is going to be welded in between the ends of the frame.

this is the height we ended up using to match the front, this is only temporary until we have time to remove the lift blocks and change shocks mounts and make custom shackles.

thats the cleanest ive ever seen this engine

Keep up the good work. Any problem with the hi-steer hitting the springs with the degree shim? What degree are they?

Finally updating this...
broke the center pin on my lift block this summer... good excuse to ditch them

took off the ubolts and found the axle tube is cracked... im not sure if i can just weld this shut or if i should use my spare housing instead.

custom truck hoist

flex without the lift blocks, my driveshaft no longer hits the gas tank and neither do the shocks hit the springs... sooo much better now.

I decided to stick with the 22-re and ordered a new engine from Davez off road performance, picking it up friday and hopefully getting it installed this weekend   :crossed:

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike
