Sorry to hear about the engine. Was this the engine you bought from Davez that might have thrown a rod? If so what a bummer. Can't wait to see the pics.

86turboyota

yep that was the engine, but i talked to dave and he is going to take care of it.

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

as promised.. pics.    We ran Deer Valley trail from Hermit valley the northern side of the trail was covered in 3-5feet of snow still so we only made it part way because it was too melted out on the lower side of the trail making for extremely tippy wheeling.   Also i came within a few seconds of a flop, got it up on 3 wheels and it started going over but i slammed it into reverse and floored it and barely saved it  :yikes:

just got off the phone with dave from Davez offroad, and it turns out that the bolts that hold the flywheel on sheared off/backed out, and the engine didnt blow up... He said he has never seen that happen before...

So ive been busy, removed the body lift and painted my front bumper!  Tires dont hit without the body lift so im glad i removed it, its easier to get into and the COG is slightly lower now.  I even waxed the 4runner for the first time in 3 years, actually managed to get it looking halfway decent.

well we made a last minute decision Saturday morning to do barret lake trail, on our way there about 10 miles outside south lake Tahoe smoke starting coming out from under my hood, stopped and a found that the idler pulley for the power steering was seized and the belt was melting and causing the smoke.  I was able to loosen the nut enough so that the pull spun on the shaft instead of its bearing and made it to napa in south lake right before they closed, and $40 later i had a new pulley and belt.  Changed that out in the napa parking lot and we were on our way.  Pulled up the trail head of barrett lake about 7pm and found out it was closed ....... ended up camping at wright lake and went to the rubicon for a couple hours Sunday morning.  Story and pics to follow.

Our very first trip to the con was awesome even though we only got to spend like 4 hours on it.  We cant wait to go back for more.  Anyway we headed in from the loon side at around noon, only met a few rigs coming out, a ton came out while we were airing down.  Got a little past the slabs and had lunch and turned around and we ran into the Eldorado County Sheriff in their new JK,  pretty cool rig, nice enough guy, the guy i talked to was nice enough at least.. the other guy that was with him that talked to my friend didnt seem to be enjoying himself very much.  When we were about 300ft from the trail head we saw a late 60s dodge w200 power wagon with 3 drunk guys in it headed in.  About 20 minutes later while we were airing up the sherrif came around the bend at the trail head with his lights flashing and the drive of the truck in hand cuffs.  Another 30 or so minutes passed, the driver of the power wagon was now in the back of the forest service patrol car that had come up, meanwhile one of the other guys had driven the truck back to the trail head only to the find the sherriff still there, that guy got busted for drunk driving too, and i think the truck was going to get impounded because right before we left a tow truck showed up.

Anyway, we had a blast on the very short amount of the Rubicon that we did and will deffinetly be going back to do the whole thing later this summer.

Dana 35s suck balls.  We attempted the rubicon last weekend, got nearly up the slabs when the carrier and spider gears in my friends TJ decided to explode.  It tooks us over 5 hours to get him from the slabs back to loon lake because the c clips kept falling off and we had to jack up the jeep and put them back on at least 8 times.

this is where he broke  :headscratch:

i would love to know which engineer thought this was a good idea.....

The ARB install went very smoothly and i have to say that what a difference it makes, running open on the road is soo nice and just flipping a switch to full lock is awesome!

I removed 2 leaves from the front spring packs, that leveled the truck out nicely, i also finally installed my davez offroad rear shock hanger with 10" bilsteins.  I had to redo my exaust a bit to fit them.

i also plumbed in a shut off valve so i can use my compressor to activate the locker as well as air up tires
