I Had that before,  but I just plugged the air cleaner hole  and put a blue breather vent on the valve cover.

Why do you say I need that?

And by the way, could I use my 20r vavle  cover ?? or would something not line up, or is the 22r rocker assembly too tall. ? And could I use my 20r valve seal. ?

valve cover maybe but I think that year motor has a taller rocker assembly but you can try

valve stem seals??   same size stems.

No, the rubber ring that seals the valve cover to the head. Sorry should have been more specific.

Haha ya thanks bro. I'm really liking it. And I'm not going to lie your tan of your 22r was the inspiration more or less to my color. Going for a "quieter" motor look. Kind of like it belongs in the trees and less On the street. I'm going for maybe a tan valve cover and oil pan. Kind of like yours. H8PVMNT . Not sure if I'll pain the intake though. Maybe just give it a good clean. Soaking it in pine sol right now.

H8PVMNT

In ended up using am '84 intake because it has the "hot plate" for cold starts.  I soaked it in some pretty strong parts washer solvent but the pine sol I used on the first intake did a WAY better job.  I might pick up some more pine sol if I haven't installed it by payday.

Is that what that thing is?  That's mounted under but sits inside the intake?  kind of a cylinder that would be right underneath the carb. I thought it was a sensor of some sort.  I'll have to look into how to wire that. I imagine  it doesn't run full time does it?
Toyota + rv camper; you'll never need another car, you'll never need another home. = perfect

H8PVMNT

Yes that's it.  I guess is gets 12V on cold starts under a certain temp.  It provides a hot surface to bounce the air fuel off of since gas doesn't like to stay atomized below a certain temp.  It has some sort of mini-computer or relay that turns it on and off.  I think it could be wired to a switch easy enough since your early harness wouldn't have the stuff for it.  It has one power wire to it and grounds through the intake.

4xChinook4

I almost wonder, if I could just wire 12v to a switch in the cab. And just turn it in and off as I please? Or would this be a big No No?
Toyota + rv camper; you'll never need another car, you'll never need another home. = perfect

H8PVMNT

I don't see why not as long as you remember to shut it off. If it works good on my 4runner I might wire one like that om my '80 as well.

When would I know to turn it off though? Once I see the temp gauge start to move off the bottom maybe ???

should swap right over
usually only run into trouble with that when putting a 20R head in a truck that had a mechanical fuel pump.

No, it won't work.  I haven't read this whole thread yet but I'm assuming you're talking about putting the 20R thermostat housing onto a 22R intake, right?

See my build thread for details:   http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=98717.0

The 20R and 22R clock the opening in the intake differently and the flanges are slightly different.  Even if it would seal properly (which it won't), it'll be aimed way off towards the passenger side.  A 22R thermostat housing shouldn't be too hard to find...?

Yes guys, hello sorry I've been up in Glenwood  for the last 5 days or so.... and welll... SHE RUNS!! a few hick ups along the way. Like needing to get bolts for the underside of the intake manifold, and that heater had a stripped and broken bolt. (For the record I broke the bolt, but trying to loosen it/take it out ) and then plug up a few water ports on the Manifold. And yes big scary was that thermostat housing swapping over from the 20 R to the 22 R . And I am happy to say it did fit and sealed. it was very close, and it did shoot the neck way out to the passenger side, but at the end of the day it did its job fine. drove it home the full 170 miles, with no sign of a. however my battery did die in town when in Glenwood, just went to Autozone picked up a new battery and drove home no problem.

LET THE ADVENTURE CONTINUE!!

Good job!

I'd keep a close eye on that thermostat housing to intake seal.  I can believe it sealed, but it's definitely not the right shape so isn't making full contact all the way around.  If it was my rig, I'd be keeping my eyes open for a 22R housing to swap in.

Dig the khaki/tan colored valve cover and brown engine!
