I have an autometer tach already! as well as an oil gauge and AFR gauge. So I wouldn't gain anything from the swap!

Truck is running awesome!!! Just for good measure did a compression test, they are all at 170 PSI. can't ask for better.

So I sneezed real hard, while driving and this came out. Any guesses?

Well? Still not sure? FJ62 front axle! Scored it from helipilot77. PS putting this thing in the back of a 4runner, by hand with only two people....sucks.

This is a 9.5" gear. Its HUGE!

Why are they always covered in so much greese!

So the FJ62 has a few challanges. One is the top spring pad isn't a spring pad and will have to be cut off and rewelded. The spring perches are 29 3/4" wide vs 29" on a mini. Moving the pads might be interesting, but doable.

The FJ62 is also 58" wide, so no need for a wheel spacer!

Looks good! I like that you found and are using an fj60 axle. Not many people use them when they are a good choice sadly they are not easy to find.

IIRC the 62 axle was slightly wider than the 60 axle.  Most of the ones I've seen for sale, they want $$$$ for.  So, it's always been cheaper to go with Hilux axle.

The 60 had drum brakes, the 62 has disc brakes. Both are 58.5 WMS with 9.5 diff.

Nice score on that 9.5... Your rig sounds killer :beerchug:

I built the same axle for my 4Runner. For the perches I simply cut the top of the existing perch to the angle I wanted and welded a piece of steel to the top to match the needed spring width. I did slightly cut into the housing on the passenger side to get the correct spacing. Overall was very easy to do. Never bolted it in since I will be 3 linking the front instead of leaf springs.

Another option to consider is running IFS hubs to get a little more width and then you can run drop off rotors from a Tacoma or upgrade to Tundra brakes if your rims will allow it.

Also, FJ60 and 62 front axles both had disk brakes and are the same width.

Yeah. Im learning a lot about these axles and they are more different then they look. I found this.

This will help. But when doing to SOA you also need to rotate the knuckleballs to get the caster and pinion angle right. I am thinking about having wild west off road doing it, as I don't have the proper tools to set all the anlges and what not.

Other then that I have order a Marlin gusset kit and a few other odd parts. The 9.5 is getting a Spartan. I just don't have the cash for a selectable right now. RCV axles and I already have a Marlin high steer, and a few OEM axle rebuild kits.

I just ordered the ruff stuff ideal Chevy 63 kit, perches, and shock mounts. They are offering 15% off right now and they are very cool people to deal with. I've heard nothing other than there stuff is pure beef!

Just ordered it. Saved 19 bucks! Yeah I checked around everything I have read says beef. I'm getting excited!

Got the axle stripped of all the brackets. I started throwing dollar bills at it but my neighbors started looking at me funny.

Played with the SOA stuff. They look nice.

Ordered some parts. Yes I know some of them are TG. I feel ashamed.

Got a 23 spine coupler for when 4.7's get back in stock.

I wish I could get some digital angle finders! I have crappy ones.

Made some progress. I cut and ground the new perches making it a keyed system. I think it will make welding it easier and stronger and made the two perches the same height. I think Jerry92toy is going to weld them for me. The perches are 10 5/16 from the outside edge of the bearing race to the center pin. 5-6* positive caster. 6-7* up diff angle. 29" pin to pin. Should be great!

So truck hit 1500 miles today. Still running great!

Drove down to Vancouver WA and hung out with Jerry92toy who did some welding for me. Its a rather long drive, and my pitty came along.

Got the FJ62 axle all welded up. Everything is within .1-.3 degrees and under 1/16 of an inch. He does lay some nice welds. I welded a little and next to his, they look....

Have a little grinding to do, but not much, then its cleaning, painting and waiting for parts.

Looks good! Glad to see others seeing the potential of the fj60/62 axle. I have parts to build one here shortly for my next family crawler. Can't wait to hear how the spartan works for you in the 9.5" I have one as well as a Detroit for my build.
