So I rolled my old 1985 Xcab that Ive been mobbing for 6 years. While looking for a new cab I came across a heck of a deal and I talked myself into it. 1985 toyota xcab, walkthru cab 4 seater, exo with tube rear half, Trail Gear steering pump/res/cooler and a 3RZ running :) I have put my axles and suspension under it and will soon add my transfer cases and steering. There is a little to get done, like, brake lights, wiring, interior, registration, moving shock hoops, adding air bumps, new rear drive shaft, re-tube front drive shaft....  :hammerhead:

I want to tub the rear like a buggy and make a "reverse" canvas top for the back, it will be inside the cage. Then I want to put bed skins on the back with a tail gate to make it look full bodied and street legal.  :_order:

I now need a name for her.  :headscratch:

You gonna keep this one a mild build like you said you were gonna do on your last one? :gap:

Who did you get that from. See you were at the fastrip gasstation in paradise california right?

Edit: reminded me of a prettier version of kaseys old truck

jrock

I picked this up from Wilson on PBB, and you are correct, I was at the fastrip in Paradise. Cheap gas :)

This will be a mild to more than mild wheeler. Hard lines and hard trails but I'm not trying to destroy it. My clean body truck wheeling ended with the blue truck. I will build a clean truck again, when I have the space.

The other frame is sitting right now, I'll figure out what it's doing eventually. For now the 22re is coming out so I can put the frame in storage ad get the new truck in the garage for some body work.

jrock

I got it moving today, cases are in and rear drive shaft is in, brakes are working, just need to fix up the steering. Pitman arm hit the frame, so i need a drop. I need to pick up a high pressure fitting for my steering box, all the steering is TG. I'll run it as a full hydro until I can get a pitman, I'm broke!

Its a nice looking rig!!!

Saw this for sale on pirate, seems like a pretty good re-starting point.

Are you planning on reworking the back half or keep it as is and make changes? Seems like if you put bed skins on it would look odd since they'd stick out past the cab.

Should be pretty sweet once you get it up and going

jrock

I don't want to rework the rear tubes. I really like them. I want to tub the lower back half, it'll look good once it's painted. Then I will eventually skin a bed onto the back half. Like a baja truck. I really like the full body look. I've never been a fan of the tubed half look.

Cleaning the frame, plating on Monday when the metal store opens.

Very cool truck, I like the cage. Could you post pics when you do the interior canvas top? I have a runner I want to do the same thing to.

Very nice and I shall. The top will be done by November. Otherwise I can't leave it outside :(

I will be following the build, cant wait to see the finished product. How are thinking to fasten the top, maybe snaps on the outside?

It's ready but I'm off to a meeting for Lost Coast 4x4. Steering is mostly bled but I haven't started the engine. Hydro is all hooked up. I had to re-tap the steering box in a different location to allow for a different position of the box. It needs all it's lights, along with some trouble shooting for the turn signals. But it's ready to run :)

It's #75!

jimbo74

nice progress! man that was fast!

Drove it two days ago. Steering is all hooked up and running, drivetrain is good but I need new front and rear driveshafts, axles are together after replacing a passanger outer wheel bearing, radiator fixed and cleaned.

Messing with wiring now. Last night I re-did all the rear ends wiring. The fuel pump, float level and lights. I have reverse and brake lights. The PO had put a fuel pump kill switch in but it was actually wired to the fuel float :P Also pulled a bunch of jumper wires out and have completely re-made the tail harness.

Note: The float sensor resistance is the same for a 22re and a 3rz :) Fuel gauge works :) !

One thing I've noticed is the 3rz is dogging in the 750-1500rpm range. It idles real strong and above 1500 it takes off! It currently has a huge exhaust, it will be reduced from 3" to 2.25". Its got the 22re fuel pump. Any ideas on the sluggishness?

So a 3rz fuel pump puts out 38-44psi while a 22re fuel pump puts out 33-38psi... would this cause a lul in low end power or high?
