Alright. What shocks is everyone running and in what configuration/placement in the rear? I am tired of trying to mob through the desert and just beating my front bump stops to death. What I am thinking/what worked on my buddys KOH truck.

Bilstein 7100s in the front with my marlin shock hoops and trail gear knuckle gussets. I don't like how my marlin gussets only hold one side of the shock.
Going to buy my buddies Bilstein 5165s for the rear and mount them like an '85 to prevent axle wrap.

And discuss.

get these http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1061400

Yea I like the look of those. Just hope they come out soon. I already have marlins old skool knuckle ball gussets so I would have to modify them either way.

ya very true, im going to get some of those when they come out, should be sweet

redrocket93

Your shock plan sounds like a good one, but what about just sticking with the 5125's in the front and adding air bumps to absorb the hard hits? Just running a softer and thicker, rubber bumpstop made a world of difference on my truck. Also, if you do go with airbumps you can re-use them WHEN you link it with coil overs. Might be a little more budget friendly.

I'm with ya on the old skool single shear gussets. I had them on my old axle housing and the shocks were always loosening up. Went with the double shear trail mart gussets on my current axle and have had no issues. Glad to see marlin stepping up his game on those.

Trucks coming together great, BTW.

Slolyfe

Yea air bumps may be a better call. I will have to take a good look in there and see where they would fit. I do like the softer ride of my current shocks. 90% of my wheeling is putting around in the rocks.

I would highly recommend a damper (shock) that you can rebuild ant adjust the valving.  The basic Fox 2.0s are a pretty decent start.  Go longer then you think you need, and just build the mounts so that you don't top or bottom the dampers out.  I have some decent pics in my 1980 build in my sig.

Got the shock mounts in somewhat. I talked to my fabricating consultant(steve925) and I am going to strap and gusset them a lot more but hear is where they will sit.

A few more. Plenty of room with the tire in to run 1" X .120 supports back to the frame.
