Alright since the funds are lacking I started taking the engine apart trying to get down to mostly just the block in order to start the rebuild but does anyone know how i can do a compression test since the motor isnt in the car and is mostly just the block and heads? is a leak down test sufficient enough to know if the engine needs to be completely rebuilt?

a leak down with just tell you if air leaking through the valves or past the rings...and no you cannot do a compression test with the motor out unless you are superman
SaS'd Dual ultimate crawler w/5.29s Aussie front/detriot Rear, 35's Mtr's with kevlar

locked 4x4

if you could hook up the starter to the engine and just use jumper cables to get it to turn over then you should be able to do a compression test.  Might be a little bit of a red neck job but i bet its possible.

GONZO97

yeah i figured it probably wouldnt be possible because its basically just the block and heads no electrical is hooked up at all....so whats the best way to tell if i need to rebuild it? any suggestions?

just tac on the front, put the spring on and then that will show you where to put your rear hangers. also look at the center pin and see where you want your axle to sit.

<MIKE>

yes you could do it that way if you know the exact measurments from eye 2 eye along the length of the spring.. i did mine that way and it worked out.  just subtract an 1" 1/2 for the shackle angle and tac it on. but you might as well wait because you want to tac everything and then put it together and set it on the ground to check the angles and what not.

i actually tac'd mine on and let it sit overnight and the next morning moved the shackle hangers back almost and inch because the springs had settled so much. just a thought

Definitely well maybe this weekend i can find me some rears from the pick a part here in town its just hard to find the time.... idk how comfortable id be letting the truck sit on just a tac'd spring hanger though lol

oh don't worry about that. if you tac it decent it can sit for yrs because the weight is pushing on it. i've just set the weight of the truck down on the spring hangers with a jack as a safety without any tacs whatsoever. you would be suprised how stable it is. i know i was when my buddy showed me.

<MIKE>

one thing i did notice with your kit is that you have the frame tubes. i did mine with under the frame shackle mounts so scratch all that your going to have to be more precise with yours because you can only cut one hole. so ya you would be better off waiting till you get some springs.

Yeah I was thinking about that probably going to mount my shackle tubes first and then attach springs then tac up the front hanger.... and then make adjustments to the front rather than to cutting like six different holes in my frame :hammerhead:

i run a square up front. i love it. it vibes at high speeds but i usually dont go fast in 4wd. you will want to get the rear made at a shop and balanced if you plan on driving it on the road.
