Since I am 2/3rds through the swap I can answer a lot of your questions about it. I also have a guy that does conversion harnesses for these swaps.
and on the 4.7 gears, pull the rear drive shaft off the back of the t-case, have buddy watch for how many rotations the flange makes, and spin motor over with a 19mm wrench on crank pulley bolt, 2.28 spins on crank pulley bolt to make flange spin once brings the suck, and 4.7 spins on pulley bolt brings the win
IronClad: If I wanted to hold hands and be nice I'd become a hippie.
My new radiator came with the trans cooler since I planned to use/am using at for an oil cooler. And I got it for $80 shipped. What all is needed to go from manual to auto? I can't imagine much... not like going auto to manual. Probably different x-member?I'm still in the "thinking about getting it" stage; what happened with your 4.3 anyways? And how much for an R150 trans and a wiring harness? It shouldn't need much since it's a front-cut and my truck is carb'd... but what do I know?
That's another question; are those autos any good/reliable for wheeling or are they more useful as boat anchors?
I need to come down sometime and check out your rig. Maybe convince you to weld some stuff for me and drink a few PBR's
That's not hard to do... for a few months I was buying PBR by the keg because it's cheaper than buying 30 packs all the time. And 'cause it's cool to have a keg outside the shop in the snow... need to get a fridge for summer.
Why not just run dual exhaust and forget about the crossover pipe?
I want to get that 3.4 but we'll see how money looks soon. If I get it now it'll just wait in the shop until the 22R dies or winter comes next year; no point of starting a swap in spring... that's wheeling season! So far most of the swap builds I have found (and have ben shown to me) are the 3.0 to 3.4; not many 22R to 3.4 and damn sure not many for early trucks like mine. One thing I haven't found a reason for when dealing with the exhaust: Why not just run dual exhaust and forget about the crossover pipe?
Twice the cost for an exhaust system and twice as much piping to get destroyed by the rocks.
Then it's Zoomies through the hood for me!
Time says a new engine isn't likely for a good while... oh well; maybe the prices will drop by the time I'm ready for one.
Agreed; it's a common enough engine and the prices ought to be lower by the time I have money to burn/the 22R expires.
