After a few 1000 miles it will start eating up the tire from the inside out, I demounted a tire that had plastic bb's in it and the rubber got hot enough where the beads were sinking into the inner part of the tire :o

Jakesteads

too bad there was no bb's left in my blown tire we could have seen what was in them :)

well we know what wasn't there... grade 8 bolts! Still glad you came out of that unscathed. And that is a word.

How much did you pick up that taurus fan for? I am looking for one up in Greeley and I'm not having any luck so far

It was about $15 and there's a metric ass-ton of Tauruses in that yard. It only took me 3 cars to find A) a fan and B) the right fan/slim motor wih wiring. Easy as pie; I can pull a few if you guys want?

Here's my latest dilemma:
The rear output seal on the t-case is leaking. I have read this can be an indication of a bad seal between the trans and case. In preparation to pull the t-case I drained the oil (duhrf) and both the trans and case had plenty; neither seemed lower than expected. I forgot to check the levels before I drained them...
So this makes me ask: Should I just do the rear output seal first and see if that's all that is leaking? Remember, I am lazy but I also hate doing things more than twice.

Quick Draw

Just swap out the output real quick, and plan on duals in the near future, I would say.  My t-case leaked really bad when I got my truck, but I never did anything about it because I knew duals would be going in at some point.

hey wakk I have a transmission seal you can have, new napa seal, Ill throw it in with the carb if ya buy it :P

wakkjobb

I picked up some seals from carquest yesterday; a whopping $12 total. The rear output is currently in and I'm letting the silicone cure some before I tighted it all the way.

I am thinking of using a chevy HHR fan because it is thinner than the taurus fan because I dont have the space or one.

A few years ago I stuck a pair of Cadillac Catera fans on an older Chevy; they weren't too thick and they are about 20" across IIRC. They kept the engine cool with no problems; I had 2 on but was fine with running one even during the summer.

Got tags this morning!!! Super big thanks to Suz for her help too  :smooch: :smooch:
Today I cleaned the shop since it was getting nasty and got a tag light to wire in. Big day, eh?
The front sesal on the trans is leaking a bit more; I really don't want to pull it just to replace that seal but I may have to. Luckily the rear output is holding fine, no signs of leaking or drips. If there's time I may stick on some rock lights and the heater control cable and whatever else I can think of.

To the shop!!

Wired the tag light, took off the bed plate and saw how crappy the welds are on the bed... like buble gum, I tell ya! At least now I know it can be removed fairly easily for when I get around to re-mounting the shock x-member. Plus the dang thing is heavy as crap; gotta be better than 100 pounds easy.

Going to try out Eagle Rock today; here's hoping nothing else happens... the power steering belt fell off on the way to meet Suz; steering 37s manually SUCKS!

I'd buy that engine today if it wasn't in friggin California... lame.

I do have the hydro but the PO (or someone) stuck PS on it without the correct crank pulley so the belt will walk off now and then. It's fun.

dezrik

hey wakk I would of Gave you the pulley you needed for free, If you would of asked....

wakkjobb

I have a pulley, just need to put it on. That'll be this week, I've got to yank the trans and replace the front seal since it's leaking pretty dang good. Or leaking bad, however you want to say it.

And since you're going to CA there's a little place in Fresno that has some pretty good shiite; maybe you heard of it; "Marlin Crawler" or something?  I could use one of everything from there.

Edit: Oh wait, NOW I get it; sure! Pick up that engine, will ya? And can you deliver and install it too?  :disturbed:

Anyhow, here's some pics from this weekend's excursion into the snow:

Got the trans out to replace the front seal; turns out the old one had about a 1/2" chunk missing from it. Awesome. Also this thing has ben rebuilt; there are a lot of new bolts/odd-bsll bolts holding everything together. At least they're all the correct threading...

Yeah the front seal let out about a quart of gear oil this weekend. I could smell it burning on the header too; always a good smell. Also learned something neat about crank pulleys: the power steering pulley can be unbolted from the rest of the crank pulley so you can return it for yard credit! Score!

Nah, let's get some more powah before welding on a few hundres pounds of steel:

Only thing is I'd need a 5 speed instead of that slushbox... although an auto would be nice/comfortable for wheeling I think.

She sent it to me; I'm trying to find info about the auto trannies but am mostly finding 5 speed stuff. I am scouring the Toyota FAQ on Pirate at this moment... my eyes already hurt.
Also searching for 4cyl to V6 swaps; most are 3.0 to 3.4 swaps...

But I want it!

And you can friend the parts place on facebook; there's a video of them dropping a 3gen 4runner from a forklift and I think Russell G's rig is in the background.
