1. Been meaning to do that, just been pretty lazy/ had more important things.
2. Yea, but hey, its a learning process.

Took a day trip up to strawberry today. There is still alot of snow near the summit that is blocking the trail. I only took 1 or 2 pics and I'll get them up later.

That was the hard tippy section just before the squeeze rock. This has gotten alot harder since I was last there 5 years ago.

Above is where the trail would continue beyond the creek crossing but there is to much snow.

Didnt get any shots up at squeeze rock. Still alot of water on the trail, and alot of snow at the summit. I had to winch myself off the last mound of snow before I turned around.

Turns out I didn't have to notch the frame. But It did take a few times of heating  :flamer: it up then pounding :_order: it with a bfh to make enough room for the castle nut to clear. I have about 1/8" clearance along its swing but it should be good.

after you built your front springs did you ever measure the arch on the springs w/ no weight?

also wondering where you bought your center pin's and spring clamps?

Never measured the Arch. Just before I did the spring swap I called Dave at DavezOffroadPerformance and got some new spring bushings and the centering pins. I had just reused the spring clamps.

I'd imagine Davez carries all that stuff or knows who does. Just in case I need some bigger spring clamps.

Thanks.

After months of preparation and eagerly waiting this past friday I started to swap out my IFS width axle for an upgrade.

A diamond centered fj80 rear end Full float with disc brakes.
I ran into a few problems along the way..... The past 2 years I had been running 4% shims in the rear leafs to help my pinion angle. Since I was welding on new spring perches I thought now would be a good time to remove the shims. In that process I ended up breaking the drivers side centering bolt.

That slowed me down but I kept at it. The biggest problem is the axle shaft and Drive Flange mounting. The drive flange appears to be to deep to install the C-clip on the new shafts. It was getting late and I still needed to get the truck off the jack stands and all the way into the garage so I decided to run it that way for now and worry about that later. Then I could not get the axle shaft/ drive flange all the way into the housing. The passenger side is as far in as I could get it and there is still about 3/8ths of space between the Wheel Hubb and the back side of the Drive flange.

Anyone that knows land cruizers.... Are there different size drive flanges?

Regardless, here she sits...

I still need to set up shock mounts, figure out the e-brake cable routing, and drill out the pinion flange.

:drooling: That axle looks stout. Sorry can't help you with the axle problems though.

Out of curiosity, what size tires do you plan on running?

John Doe

I am currently running 37's and plan to run them for awhile

Looks like it's coming together nicely.

JD I didn't get as far on my front axle as I wanted to today and i'm heading to Madera tomorrow to pick up some tires. Maybe i'll hit you up and swing by to get the socket or maybe i'll just cruise down there next weekend since you'll need it this week.

Yes and yes. It turns out that there is a slight difference in height from the ABS/ non ABS drive flanges and what I didnt know is I needed the non ABS. Luckily a set showed up in the mail today.

Where to begin..... 2 weeks ago I had the pleasure of going to the Cantina and had a chance to show off the new Hellfire fab FJ80 knuckles to Marlin

And then this past weekend was the Round up. I got packed up and headed out thursday afternoon. Got to the Spillway at about 230 and since I was ahead of my group I was going to tag along with a group that was going to be heading out shortly. Turns out that 1 of the rigs had a bad set of wheel bearings so I descided to head into Ellis on my own.

Woke up the next morning to find that my group arrived and set up camp in the middle of the night. We set out around 10am and headed to the springs.
Had fun playing at Soup bowl

Ate lunch at the Box and kept on trucking. Had the occasional slow down waiting on traffic in various places.
Made it to big sluce by about 330

About 3/4 the way down I broke the inputs shaft on my steering box. As luck would have it someone had a spare box about 8 rigs up the hill. I immediately started to swap out my box for the new 1 which was recently rebuilt and tapped for hydro. I don't know his board name, but I am pretty sure his name was Craig  :beerchug:

I made it into camp about 2.5hrs later Tired, soar, and hungry. I relaxed Saturday and enjoyed a very scenic helicopter ride along the trail. Enjoyed great food, great company, and a huge bon fire! Woke up sunday and headed up and out Cadillac hill.
The Goldenstate Motorsports Crew and I had a great time and cant wait to come back next year!

Good seeing your rig in action on the trail!   :beerchug:

I was right behind you for a bit on Saturday (i think) keeping up, until a jeep with us broke a tab on the steering box and sheered the other 2 bolts dropping it off the frame.

Was that a canvas bag on the back for trash? or just a logo?
