For the tailgate, I'm leaning towards modding my stock tailgate with window. A guy on pirate took out 4 inches from the bottom and capped it.

Check out post #30 and 32 for details.

On a side note, I ordered a CB off eBay.

It's a Cobra 19DX IV CB. It's a compact 40-channel CB, and I really dig it. Came in the mail today

Any suggestions on antenna and location to mount it? I'm thinking about putting it in the dash... like, cut a square hole and put it in there with an external speaker  :gap:

I'm going wheeling next weekend (March 7 and 8th), and I hope to have a camera man this time.

I wish I had known you needed a CB.  I've got an extra uniden that's just been taking up space for over a year.

And here's a pic of my ghetto setup.  It's not the prettiest, but it gets the job done.

I got those same roadmaster speakers in my pop up camper

I got it brand new, in the box, and shipped for $30. Not a bad deal, me thinks. I have a friend with the same one, and he loves it. I like that it's really compact.

Dang... My bad. Oh well. Thanks anyways!!!

I like the location on yours, but my 'Runner doesn't have room there. I do have room where my radio head unit and equalizer used to be.

Could I use my radio speakers as an external speaker???  :dunno: I already have them, and that would be sweet!

DTB

Yea that aint bad! I got two of em...one for the pop up and one for the rig....

34.99 @ walmart.......thats why I was askin....

I think I may have one. My grandparents have a farm in Kansas, and when they "retired" from doing tractor work, they took off the CBs and antennas. I have a couple antennas to try out. They're big, but FREE!!!

Will do! I might be mounting this temporarily for the weekend until I can figure out for real where I want it. I'm still thinking about sinking it into the dash pad

Jordan7118

I think I might be able to mount this in my ash tray.

This guy put his CB where the factory radio / equalizer went. The picture shows that the CB might fit in the ashtray. That's really what interests me  :eyebrow:

I tried mounting it where the ash tray is, the cb wont fit with out cutting away 1 of the 2 mounting screws back there.

John Doe

I'm hoping for the ash tray mount. If not, I have another trick up my sleeve  :wink2:

Mag-mount vs. Hard mount
I went by RadioShack and picked up two antennas - a magnet mount and a 3' hard mount. I'm not sure which one will work best. I'd like to hard mount where the factory antenna was just because it looks factory and there's already a hole. However, I don't want it to get ripped off, so maybe a mag mount on my cowl would be good. That way I could take it off if need be. Thoughts?

Radiator
I've been having a small leak from my radiator. I had it brazed on the bottom, but I must have bumped it wrong and it's leaking now. So, I picked up a new 3-core radiator designed to work with the 4cyl (V6 radiator into Snoopy). It has an inlet and outlet on the bottom for the factory automatic transmission cooler. Could I plumb my power steering into this, or would that be a bad idea?

Wheeling this Weekend
I'm going home this weekend for the Manager's Special at Superlift in Hot Springs. I can't remember if I've announced that, but I'm excited to wheel so I'll announce again  :disturbed:  Pics will happen this time, as I have a competent camera man planning to come with me. We'll see  :eyebrow:

John Doe

My plan is a mag mount on the roof, running the wire back in the lip of the hard top.

mount the antenna  as close to the center of the vehicle as you can, in the case of a 4runner  mount it in the farthest back part of the metal cab in the center,  or use the magnet mount

I highly recommend a Wilson  mag mount,  those cheap things you find at walmart work fine till it rains then they rust inside and work like crap

Bump.

Anymore input on this CB business? I bought an external speaker for the CB, two antennas (hard-mount and mag-mount). What else could I need? I need to have it running for this weekend's run.

THK Matt

unless you run two antennas run in the the center like Glen mentioned.

I run my CB here.

I  disagree on two antennas,  if the antenna's are not at least a quarter wave apart,  they won't be directional as intended (or at least in the right direction).  Truckers put two at least 102" apart, and this gives more strength forward and backwards.  So when they are going down the road they can talk further ahead.  102" distance is optimal, and is 1/4 wave.   :twocents:

I tried the ash tray. it fit, but I stuck out hella far, You have to cut the heat exchange out (what makes the air go up to the defroster) I cut a hole so it would fit, but I lost the ability to change the heat up to the defroster. I dont know about you but my defroster is pretty damn important. So I put my ash tray back in and moved the cb. I tried to start a thread on where guys have mounted thiers but it didnt go over very well :dunno:

CB:
I tried to mount it where the ashtray went. Had to cut out the ashtray tabs. When I got it in there, it stuck out far enough to hit my shifter, so that wasn't gonna work.

So, I pulled my e-brake handle out and mounted it above my right knee where the handle was. Like it so far.

I'll post pics and talk about this weekend when I get time. Thanks for the help, guys!

yota_krawler

told ya, I already tried that spot.

maybe I posted to late...
