for a quick fix extention you can use a rear brake line up front, the rear threaded onto one end  of the front line

Tried. It's a female/female on the 89 parts runner, and I need male/female. Maybe the parts runner is just an oddity...

does it try to stsrt? what does it do? Are you getting spark, and fuel, and air?

No, doesn't really even wanna fire. I'm getting spark at the coil, pretty sure fuel, and haven't checked on air. I didn't have time to start diagnosing. Had to come back to Fayetteville for a birthday and to fix up my room for the year.

Any quick thoughts on what's going on? I think I may have added too much oil to the cylinders. I heard that I should do that to lube up the walls cuz it's been sitting for a year. Thoughts? I dunno...

79coyotefrg

did you spin it over with no plugs befor trying to start it??

i dont know much about the efi

the rear line SHOULD be male/female

If you just added to much oil then some starting fluid should help burn past that. You really need to track everything down and be shure your getting fire at the plugs. Before you pull any of the plugs crank it over for a little, when you remove the plugs they should be verry wet and smell like fuel. Be shure the air intake tube isnt cracked and leaking, or you maf sensor won't be able4 to read right. check all your plugs and such, I would start with the cold start injector, couse your gonna need it working in order to get this thing to start, espically after sitting for over a year.

Is it possible you removed something while changing the tranny, like a ground, or something?

Jordan7118

SHOULD, but it's not. I checked on it, and I was pretty darn surprised too...

Cold start injector? What and where? I'll check on the grounds again around the tranny, but I didn't have any trans in last time I started it. :suprised: I know... I had to have it started to get credit for school. It was a "special problems" project.

I guess I'll start by inspecting the air delivery, then tranny grounds and whatnot, then roll over for a while to see if they're wet, pull the plugs and check 'em, then roll over without any plugs to check for spark on wires and get oil out (maybe just a little), then some starting fluid... Maybe I'll be able to break away from Fayetteville for a couple days to get it going this week. We'll see...

Thanks for you guys' help. As always, I'll post pics when I get 'em.  :smack:

BIG UPDATE:
Went home this weekend and made some good progress.

First I pulled the plugs and turned it over for a while. Then I put them in and turned it over for a while. After about a minute it started sputtering a little, so I just kept going. Eventually it fired up! Well kinda. I'll talk more about that later.

SO, I went back to the parts runner, and Glen is right. I must have not looked closely enough. I pulled the rear flex line off and put it on the front of Snoop. Works great. I have about 3 feet of brake line on each side now  :gap:

I found a leak in my power steering, though. It comes from the top of the box where the adjuster screw (???) is. I pulled off the nut, and I think I need a new seal for that. Any thoughts? Is that all I might need?

I cut down the rear driveshaft and welded it back together a little shorter. I didn't have any 2.5" sch. 40, so this is just temporary.

So that night I finally got all the systems working and decided to give it a run. I was so excited that I didn't realize until after I got back that I drug a drop light all the way up and down the street  :smack:  I pulled out of the lean-to and had almost no power. I had to put it in low to get it out of there. Something wasn't right...

After a quick spin, I brought it back and flexed it out. Man, those front springs are champs! The rears - not so much. I think the overload has to go. It keeps the packs pretty stiff. I might pull the bottom leaf above the overload because it's not moving much, but the overload is about right for keeping the tires out of the wheelwells. Man, it flexes pretty nice, though. Mainly the front  :disturbed:

I forgot to take pics before I took off the big tires for transport. Sorry...

Rear - compare axle line to rear tailgate line - not much flex, eh?

Where we're at now:

Snoop was taken on Monday to a local shop that kinda specializes in Toyotas and wiring. I'm thinking that Snoop has some electrical issues in his engine, so that's why I took him there.

I was really surprised his engine wasn't worth a crap. I rebuilt the engine last summer, but he's doing the same thing now before the rebuild. That's also why I think it's electrical.

I got off the phone with them yesterday, and they had pre-diagnosed that Snoop had two cylinders (out of 4!!!) that were "dead." Again, I believe this to be electrical or fuel management.

I'll be going home again this weekend, and I'd like to get these things done (at least a few  ::) ):
- Tranny tunnel
- Drive shafts (esp. rear)
- Wire rear e-locker
- Put in front shock hoops and 14" Bilsteins
- Plumb ARB front
- Rear shocks

Post up your thoughts, and make sure you go back and look at all the pictures  :king:

Oh, and the goal is to have Snoop ready for the weekend of Sept. 19th for the TTORA event at Superlift OHV in Hot Springs!

Jordan, since you said it was running on two cylinders out of four . I remember reading "Roger Brown" said something about the splices for the injectors going bad at the connection  next to the solenoid resistor( on passenger fender). Something about the factory crimp going bad  and corroding.Ahhh I'll try to find where I read it and link it. Great to see Snoop out in the day light

Man, that's kinda what I was thinking about the injector electronics. I'll call them tomorrow and let them know to check that stuff.

Yea, it was quite nice to drive it. It's been 15 months since he last drove. I'm excited to see you on the 19th  :woohoo:

Sweet runner.

Thanks, man! He's coming along. Hope to be able to wheel him soon. After I do a little wheeling I need to start building up the protection, i.e. bumpers, sliders, etc.

Looking good.  :teeth:

Don't worry about those rear springs until after the first trip. Mine took a while to settle and start working good.

Sorry to hear about your engine troubles.

Edit: saw the pictures back on the other page. That little welder is  :pimp: ! Great job!

Thanks, Josh! I guess I'll wait on the springs, then. You would think since they're over 15 years old they'd be ready, but I guess they've never been pushed past bumpstop level, i.e. never close to negative.  :headscratch:

Yea, Mr. Welder gets it done. Really I just had to learn how to use it. That was the biggest thing. And I'll never go back to flux core crap. That stuff was bad...  :_oops:

Got it. Thanks a bunch! I sent a reply. I'm about to call the shop and try to politely convince them to check on that. I'm doubting they're accustomed to customers calling in with suggestions  :phone:

Might make the trip up there to Arkansas sooner than planed if that hurricane in the Gulf does not turn.

Yea, it's more droop that I'm worried about than stuffing. Weight would help with the stuff, but I dunno about droop. I guess bumpstops would help the other side into forced droop. We'll see after the first run.

Jordan7118

The mechanic's still trying to figure out the dead cylinder issue. I think he has too much going on in his shop. He's good at what he does, but he's had all week to at LEAST diagnose  I want to go home this weekend, but I'm not going if I don't have Snoop to work on. It'd be pointless.

Today I went and got some 2.5" sch. 40 for the rear and 2" sch. 80 for the front. I know, I know... I didn't want sch. 80, but it's the inside diameter I needed. I also went to China Freight and got a dial indicator and magnetic base to make the d-shafts.

Hopefully Snoop will be out of the shop so I can work on him.  :crossed:

Jordan7118

Welp, mechanic believes the ECU was bad, so I scrounged around on a couple boards and found one shipped overnight (Thanks, Floyd!!! - 4runner). Hopefully that's all Snoop needs to be good to go.

If it all works out, I plan to go home this weekend and take care of the few things left that need to be done.

It's true. I'm a ripe, old 22 today. About to be over though...  :outtahere:

Whelp, bad news, Marlin kids...

Arkansas was hit recently with some bad weather. These storms knocked out power and telephone to the shop I put Snoop in, so I haven't been able to get a hold of them since Tuesday. My dad went there today, and the shop was closed. Snoop's being held hostage inside. This means I won't be going home this weekend to work on him

I guess I'll be going home on Thursday, Sept. 18th to work on him that night and prep for the Sept. 19th TTORA weekend at Superlift. Wish things were different, but you've gotta roll with the punches.  :boxing:

There's a select few, but most are aren't interested in wheeling, or even web-wheeling anymore.  :conf:

Let me know if you need a hand that Thursday night. I'll have my junk ready to roll, because I need to be a the park first thing Fri. morning. Heck, I might even camp Thurs. night at the park. Which side of town are you on?

Who you talking about not interested in web-wheeling anymore? Not me, cuz that's all I've done lately  :king:

I'm definitely down for a hand on Thursday night. It'll probably be late due to having class. I'm likely going to be wrenching on Friday. You're welcome to stay at my house on Thursday night, or camp in my back yard if you so desire.

Hmmm... Maybe a long trip for a weekend of wheeling  :twocents:

BAD NEWS:

I just realized (really a friend reminded me...) that I have a school thing the weekend of the TTORA event in Hot Springs until noon on Saturday. This leaves me with a couple of options:
- Skip wedding this weekend to wrench on Snoop and have him finished up
- Leave this Thursday afternoon to wrench overnight, drive back to Fayetteville and still go to STL for wedding
- Wrench on Saturday evening after raffle at park
- Just take friend and his Jeep to park
- Not go at all

I am/was really looking forward to this, so I've got some big decisions to make.

GOOD NEWS:

I go test drive a Tacoma at 9:30 am  :eyebrow:
Asking a little much for it, but it seems nice. Also, local, so that really helps out. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=251012611&dealer_id=63237419&car_year=2004&model=TACOMA&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=2002&keywordsfyc=&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=used&distance=200&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&make=TOYOTA&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=72701&advanced=&end_year=2004&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=0
