I agree. I like those fender tubes.

The toughest decision I'm having is whether or not to copy that last photo and make some 4Runner exo topper protection, or do something else later.

I guess the key to getting replies on MC is to say it's gettin' to be like YotaTech  :talkingn:

NorCalToy

i like the way those fender bars look and the idea behind them, if you get sideways into trees/rocks that often hammer down and build some.  :_order:

I don't know Jordan... I've always been more of an interior cage kind of guy.  But then again, I could care less what the body looks like as long as my passengers are safe.  What about doing something like Adam at 4xinnovation's cage?  It's internal, but has bars protecting the pillar and running into the front fender hoops.  I like it.

I've thought about that. I really want the rub rail tubing on the rear, though, as I seem to mangle those easily. Also, I might would put a small "exo of sorts" over the cab.

I'm still thinking it all over. Probably wouldn't happen until I'm back from Belize mid-June. I have some time to think about it, but I just wanted to get some feedback.

Gittinit

I like it! It needs one more down tube near the rear passenger's shoulder.  :twocents:

I may be wrong, but rails like this don't seem like they would do much of a job without a lot more bracing.  They are basically just 6 foot long pieces of tube with no real support.  I don't see how you could run those without having to choose between keeping the top or removing it permantly.  They would have to be supported against bending into the bedside, and you can't do that without running cross braces.  Unless... You could do an inner cage similar to adam's, then added the bedrails up from the sliders, along the bedside, and back to the bumper.. but with supports going through the bedside and down to the frame somehow.  Did that last part make sense?

domino

This is not the best drawing, but it'll get the point across...

Jordan7118

Yep, last part made sense, and that's really what I've been wanting to do.

In the first picture you quoted, the rub rails are attached through the bedsides and down into the frame.

Here's the buildup so you can see more - http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=714455&page=4   It's a cool buildup.

He can still remove the top easily.

I'm a fan of the 4x4 innovations idea. I'm gonna keep this mullin' around in my noggin'

Congrats, Aaron, on graduating :grad: That's awesome! And now you're closer to the park! Woot!

I have never really been a fan of exo's but I really like the exo and fender bars on the frontier4x4.com 4runner. It will kep the passengers safe and wont take much room away from the cab. On the front end I would hide the exo under the fenders to try and keep it clean.

Yep, hiding the front exo is what I really dig.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I'm currently in Belize on a service / study abroad project.

Latest issue is that Snoop won't fire up. I thought it was the pump, so I pulled down the tank. Tested the pump, and it was fine. So, I bent the gauge float 180* in hopes that the Toyota gauge will work correctly with the Ford gauge.

Then, I realized fire wasn't getting to the spark plugs. I narrowed it down to the coil igniter, so I'm looking for some replacements.

However, the good news is that I found something real sweet when I was at a couple different junkyards before I left for this trip.

Came from a second gen 4Runner, but I think it mounts the same. I'm pretty excited about installing it.

You guys have fun in Marlinland

Yep. Pretty darn lucky. And on top of that, I think it'll work with my 1st gen 4Runner even though it came off a 2nd gen 4Runner. The frames look the same in the back.

Jordan7118

I'm back from Belize and I've got some stuff for ya to figure out.

Copy and paste from ARTTORA - http://ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134831

"I'm having some issues with my 4Runner, and I'm really clueless as to where to check next.

1985 4Runner 22RE

I have no spark coming out of the coil. I replaced the coil and igniter pack with one that was working when pulled (thanks again, Albert!). Still, no spark at the coil.

So where do I go from there? I replaced the ECU about 7 months ago, so I HOPE that's not it... but any thing is possible.

I'm not a Toyota guru, so please help walk me through this troubleshooting process. As much fun as I had riding with Daryl this weekend, I'd like to be able to drive next time."

So, any thoughts? I could really use some help! Thanks!

Jordan7118

Haha! Thank goodness I'm not relying on ya'll to get my motor fixed  :talkingn:

I thought it was coil or igniter, and then the coil pickup in the distributor, but I then found that the rotor in the distributor wasn't moving when I turned the crank. Much to my disappointment, I pulled the timing chain out of the top of the engine after popping open the valve cover  :( Bummer...

So, I trailered Snoop to Paragould to see Michael Faber of Faber Fab (gittinit) to help him as much as I can (not much) with his truck-to-buggy process and also work on my stuff. After taking apart the entire front of my engine today, I put it all back together just to turn it over and here a horrid sound coming from the front. Michael thinks that the metal chain guide I have is the root of the problem, as I'm using bolts that might be hitting the chain. Any thoughts? I've not had problems with the chain before like this on the guides.

So, when I get Snoop back to Hot Springs, I'll tear it all down again and repeat. I'm so bummed. I wasted a whole day on that.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) we'll be working on putting some secondhand sliders on Snoop and building up a front bumper. I didn't get any pics today, but thankfully I'll be doing a repeat soon and will get more pics

I'm looking to copy the C-Runner bumper. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=38399.480  I like the design and how far back the winch is tucked. A lot to do, but we'll see how far I get.

Any thoughts on the bumper? I want it to hold a Warn 8000 with integrated solenoids, be made of tube, look good (obviously), and be able to take a beating.

Jordan7118

Gah, MC just isn't what it used to be...  :therethere:

Was able to get quite a bit done today thanks mostly to Gittinit who worked his bum off making a very nice looking bumper today. If something wasn't just right, he started over. I know he got frustrated. Wish I could do more to help.

Welp, good news. I finally got around to building a bumper and mounting the winch. Actually, it was mostly due to Michael Faber (gittinit) of Faber 4x4 Fabrication in Pargould.

I found this Marlin Crawler bumper in the Cabot U Pull It before I left for Belize. Finally mounted it up. I dig it. Especially for the price.

This is how we started

Cut out the bottom of the radiator support to tuck the winch

Made use of the middle part of a winch/brushguard bumper that I got from a friend about 5 years ago.

Tucked nicely

Main tube - first attempt. Notice the grill is cut to make the winch fit

Jordan7118

Main legs

Add two-bend "stinger" of sorts

Michael welding on some support tubes

Complete for the moment. Added gussets under the winch cradle

Great approach angle, me thinks

The passenger side bumper looks weird because my fender and side marker is tweaked. No worries...

I'm really excited to wire up the winch, get an aluminum Hawse fairlead, and start using this guy!

Jordan7118

Thanks! I'm really pleased with it.

I also forgot to mention that I put in some expanded metal between the winch and radiator to give a small amount of support back to the radiator support and also to make darn sure my rope or cable doesn't tear into my radiator. I don't think it will be that close, but just to be sure.

You can see the lattice pattern behind the grill if you look closely in this picture.

LilChief87

hell yeah snoopys looking sick really dig that front bumper howclose it is nice job

Killer job on that Front bumper! The expanded metal behind the winch was a nice touch.

Yep, I think it turned out pretty clean. I should've left the expanded metal out until I redo my timing chain, but oh well. No biggie.

I guess it's kinda obvious, but I removed all the AC stuff in the front. Don't use it, so I decided it was time to go.

Yea, Michael is definitely one of the best fabricators I've met. His work is top notch.

Gittinit

Thanks guys.

Now we just need to build ya a roll cage so ya don't die, or worse.
