Got back from Calico yesterday, had a great time and enjoyed wheeling with my club again. I busted 2 knuckle studs and have a leaky rear axle seal on the drivers side, i'm just glad I made it this year.

We had a total of 22 rigs.

that's all i've got for now

new tires? The truck looks good, like a low rider compared to that old schoolish extracab with the daylighters lol.

sliders done

I may have missed this but how excactly are the sliders mounted to the frame. got any more pics of this. How have they been holding up being mounted the way they are?

Talon84x4

The tires aren't new, those are the ones i DD, my iroks were 300 miles away so i just ran the 33's.

The sliders work great, have held the weight of the truck with only scratches to show. They are attached with 2 grade 8 bolts at each leg running over the top of the frame.

As for the "old school" truck, he's one of my best friends. This was the first trip out since he rolled it last year, all still original body panels and cab. You could say we have different opinions/styles when it comes to our '84s.

Thanks for the pic. Thats a neat design on the sliders, I like it. so much i might steal it when i do mine. welding the directly to my frame makes me a little weary, that setup looks pretty sturdy. If those brakets bend you could probably cut them off and weld them right to the frame after the fact. what are the brakets made of. flate plate cut and welded together, how thick?

also i wasn't bashing you buddys truck, I think it looks pretty cool, its kind of a hybrid of old school/new school.

I know, but you brought it up so I figured I'd give a little info.

The brackets are 3/16 plate.

I was just planning on leaving the truck like it is for a few years but you know how it goes, never ending. I've added some stuff to my lists of things to do when time and money allow, next couple years maybe.

*knuckle stud upgrade (ordered, FROR)
*rear axle seals
*rebuild leaking t-case
*dog-leg front case shifter
*tool box for bed
*build another spare carrier
*diff armor f&r
*front bump stops, shocks & hoops
*re-build crossmember
*t100 brake booster & mc + upgrade calipers
*interior cage + harnesses
*longfields & hub gears + aisin hubs & hub stud upgrade
*spares: axles, third, d-lines, nuts bolts & hoses

Eventually some under-hood tube work up front with a winch mount sucked up nice and tight. It's a lot all together but I wanted to get it written down somewhere so I don't forget later.

Looks like a good list of things to do. I don't think the E-fan is a worthwhile mod, I had one on my 22re and it was a big pile and broke. i ended up going back to the clutch fan.

FYI i had the black majic direct fit one. its noisey, kicks on like like 10 seperate times after you shut the truck off, and it broke lol. The only thing that makes it a direct fit is that they made brakets for it to fit. If you do one i wouldn't waste you time with a black majic..

Talon84x4

I added that is because I've been having cooling issues when it comes to crawling after i've driven to the trail. I don't think my fan clutch has much life left in it. I'd like to switch to electric and have a spare fan & clutch as a back up. The radiator is fairly new, only a few years old.

SolidAxle

Yeah man, give it a go. I was just sharing my experience. I don't really think there is anything wrong with electric fans in general, just mine lol.

Talon84x4

Got something done and replaced my knuckles studs today on both sides, thank you FROR.

front 2 on drivers busted off

much better

Got a couple things done:

cut up and rebuilt an old tool box from a full size truck bed
took a little over 3 inches out on each side to drop it between the frame rails
moved the locks from the ends to the front, and made recesses for the wheel wells

covered the box inside and out and the bed in roll-on bed liner

next is another spare carrier like i built before

If the warthogs on halo had diffguards, they'd look just like those.  Lookin good man, sweet work on the toolbox too.  Its always rewarding to do the mods that just take labor, cutoff wheels and welding wire.

Talon84x4

Thanks guys
