BUMMER, may as well do a motor swap :gap: 2.7 with a taco bellhousing it will adapt to your existing W56A trans and you wont have mod your drivetrain... i say do that... may as well.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it's DD. If he's just gonna trailer it, he should be fine with another 22R.

Talon84x4

It's a dd. With classes I don't have the time or money to put together that kind of set up. It will even take me a while to afford just a rebult 22r let alone an upgrade. If i were to trailer it i'd find a nice little diesel to put in but it will be a long time before i can even think of it.  :headshake:

My bad, thought that's what you meant when you said you were lookin' for a trailer...

What exactly happened to the motor anyway?

Talon84x4

No i am looking for a trailer just for that reason you're right. Was thinking of dd around town then trailer if i'm going far. For some reason i havn't had any problems with it around town or even going up to local places. But seems any time i'm on the freeway for any length of time i'm screwed.

I don't know what happened inside exactly i havn't pulled it yet. Lost power, died, now sounds like  :pokinit:. Sounds like another bearing to me, my guess is this block was bad luck from the start and I think i just need to get it out and gone. I'm not much of a motor guy and i've been fixing one thing at a time up to now but i'm just ready to have one built and completely replace what's in it now.  :dunno:

Don't worry, you'll get it all together in time. I've been dinkin around with my truck for 6 months and still havn't been able to drive it. Between school and work I have no time to work on it.

i couldnt find it in the thread but what color is your truck painted? and what brand of paint?

PPG, grey beige flat, urethane based paint. If that doesn't help I can snap a pic of the can, i don't know much about paint brands.

As far as an update, after work and finals next week i'll be pulling the truck apart again and might dove tail it aside from putting in another motor. Also have an idea for another spare carrier for a doved bed that might be cool/functional.

, if I wanted a truck that looks cool i would have got a 1st gen, I don't like the 2nd gen bodies as much. I'm trying to get as much sheet metal out of the way as i can because it is so low as well as keep it streetable and still looking full bodied.  I'll have to make some removable fender/mud flaps for the back but that's just one more chance to be creative.

I'd tube a beat one, not dove it. It's not that clean, the pictures do too much justice. I didn't really buy it to show it, I have no qualms with cutting it and welding it back up. Besides i'd do a clean job

1st gen all the way. yeah!

as good as everything else has turned out on your truck i'm sure the dovetail would look good

NorCalToy

yea, thats cool tehn, dove it so it doesnt get beat up. good theory. is ti road legal to have just flaps on it then or what?

If i do it i was planning on making a removable flat fender/mud flap that would give enough cover as to not get pulled over but easy enough to remove quick for the trail.  :dunno:

Decided not to dove the bed, instead i'm going to cut off the portion below the seam and make a short slider to go in it's place. I also sold off my spare carrier and will be building another of a different design.

The engine should be done saturday (so i'm told), it's taken way to long already and I just wan't to wheel. I've missed 2 club runs that I was told it would be done before. Tuesday made it 4 weeks in the shop  :headshake:. Got a few little things done though and can't wait to slap the motor back in a thrash on it again.

finally got the drop hanger on

sliders done

representing for the club

lastly some uber crappy pics of a ramp test a couple months ago, I was glad to finally get to one and see what needed to be fixed, some things I knew about like the front shackles hitting the body mounts and some things I didn't. Got everything taken care of and will have to try it again some time.

that thing looks good, dude.

Talon84x4

Update: removable mud flaps

I thought about getting one of those trucker set-ups but couldn't think of any place close that would have something like that. So took a trip to the local hardware store and $15 later came up with this.

the parts I used

assembled

mocked it into position

welded and trimmed the stock mud flap mount

mocked the whole assembly where I wanted it

removed the mud flap and welded up the frame tube

finished project

They work like they should and hold up great at freeway speeds. If i need to I can cut a new rubber mat to make a different flap and bolt to the stock mount to cover up whatever I need later on. A simple and fairly inexpensive solution I think.

I also just got back from Dusy last night and i'll post pictures from that up later today.

been away for awhile huh....

looks good on that mud flap idea.  it looks like its back far enough to not be a problem with the tire or any rocks. no braces at all thopugh? id be kinda wondering about it falling off with just one plane of welding...that doesnt make sense, but like...one welded postion, whereas a brace is a second plane of welding... :smack: nvm. carry on. :usa:

Havn't really been away, just don't post much.

They come off when the truck hits the trail so I don't have to worry about rocks. It's welded on both sides but it's plenty strong enough for what it is. The mud flap is pretty light and the mount is probably a little overkill so i'm not worried about it breaking off.

First off i would like to thank Marlin, his buds, and my fellow club members. Without them I wouldn't have made it passed friday night/sat morning. I busted a motor mount and in-turn a power steering line on thompson hill at around 2 in the morning and limped in to camp around 4. Marlin repaired the motor mount to where I will never have to worry about it again, and the central valley crawlers pieced my steering back together.
Thanks a ton guys, I owe you big time.  :turtle: :rockingout:

Marlin deserves an oscar award for his dedication to his customers and how he willing helps fellow wheelers out without asking for anything in return.

Props to him!

glad you had fun and got pictures with him.

as far as rigs from the front, Bevin, Mike, me, BigMike, Marlin. We weren't the only ones up there but the first in the group to get to the top of this lookout area.
