thanks that helped alot!  this is my first real build and it is too damn slow, i want to take it out on those slippery rocks and put it to the test..... so you decided to use the budlight crossmember and not the clocked method, why?

The clocked case is cool and all but i've got a nasty front drive shaft angle and by going duals it'll help to take the angle out, by going clocked like that i'd be right back to nasty angle with a longer shaft... make sense?

Also i don't like how you have to mount the crossmember on the back of the case and weld more stuff and move more fuel lines and cables and what not.

imaho got it right on my view.

and what's your reasoning there red on the head

red

personally i think the 4runner looks good with the fender flares and the top off or a soft top, just dont like the look with the hard top and the fender flares. personal preferance

i kinda agree.
if you want the top on and flares... go fiberglass all around.

I dont know are those flares made for the truck?  I dont like how you can see the corners of the factory "flare" but not the rest.  If you can find the ones that cover  that up completely I think they look BA!

I'm not a fan of any flares, but they looks ok for being flares.  :gap:

OK, for the longest time i've been having in cab water problems that when it rains or i'm washing the truck that have been getting my carpet soaked on both the passenger and drivers side.  I was thinking that maybe it was the window seal leaking and running down the pillar and down the inner firewall and what not.  Last year i found out that it was not that at all, infact it was where three seams of the sheet metal came together so i pried them apart and found what i thought was the hole leading into the cab letting the water in. All i did was pulled the two seams apart and filled it with roofing tar in a caulk tube and caulk gun.  It was still leaking, infact it's been leaking all winter and i haven't been able to have the carpet in because of it.

Well today i found the problem for sure and just about have one side fixed.  What it was is where the water that comes in from the slits in cowling in front of the window for the intake (where the heater pulls in fresh outside air) there is a gutter for the water to flow down and out underneath each DS & PS fender.  The water collects right in the corner of this "gutter" and just sets until after 20 plus years of water collection, rusts the corner out.  Now i don't know if this is just an 84 4runner problem but i would imagine that all 4runners and pickups have this same design.  So if your having water leaking into your cab and ruining your carpet (if most even have carpet) then maybe this will help you out.

(sorry in advance but some of the pictures turned out kinda fuzzy but you'll get the idea)

you can see where i pried the two sheetmetal pieces apart, the rectangle hole just up and to the right is the gutter i'm talking about.

Originally this is where i pried the two peaces apart and filled with roofing tar (which works really well being that it kinda hardens up but yet it's pretty much just oil with fiber in it and is totally water proof) you can still see some of it along the seam.

This is from inside the truck, the fuse box would be just to the left in the pic.

This is where the corner of that channel or gutter has rotted out and was letting tons of water flow in to the cab. It's about as big around as a dime almost dead center in the pic.

Not A Toy

damn dude, at least ya found it I hate when vehicles have leaky door seals and crap so that water can get in.

I then filled the hole up with some RTV from the side the before picture was taken.  Then i bent the sheetmetal back up leaving about a half inch gap and filled it with the tar again.  Then spot welded the sheetmetal back flush where it originated.

Then i filled the rest of any crack or seam left open with the tar and  crimped the two pecies back closed.

Tomorrow i'm going to get a can of "Great Stuff" expanding foam (that's the actual brand name great stuff) and fill in the whole back corner of the gutter so that the water can't collect there anymore.  I'll post up some pics tomorrow when i'm done.

I hope this helps someone out cause to me, there is nothing worse than the stale smell of old water and wet carpet just chillin in your truck all day long.

glad u got it figured out
