If we'd have not been belted in we'd most likely have not made it...  If we'd rolled one more time the truck would have kept going for another couple hundred feet....   :o

Wow, that would have gotten real ugly. I'm just glad to hear you were belted in, that's been the current issue with some of recent deaths by not using belts.

We only had our lap belts on as we were only running down the road at about 10 mph behind my neighbor that had half a chevy leaf and a trailside log for a rear spring after blowing the pack apart.

The next incarnation will have some things re-done so everything is within easy reach while full belted in.  8)

So it looks like I'm going to end up putting a first gen cab on it...  I can't get a hold of a 3rd gen cab for a decent price locally for another month or so and I flat refuse to run a second gen cab.  I found a cheap first gen that I think will work out saweet...

Are you going to have to piece the cab together over the cage, or is the cage removeable?

How's it going to go?

The cage is wasted other than the rear tubes.  One of them has a tweak but I'll straighten it out and re-use them on the next incarnation.

I scored the same cage out of shawnB's old truck for $100 so I'll have the same trustworthy cage again.  I just scored a complete 89 truck so I'm staying with the 3rd gen setup but this time it'll be a shortbox which is going to be weird....

I'd love to go first gen but I dig the extra room of the 3rd gen.  The truck will be sick when its done.. I'm keeping the cab intact and running the cage through the body to a rear cage in the bed and to an engine cage under the hood.  I'm going to see just how little lift I can get away with and still run the 42's...  I'm pretty sure I can do it with about 2" of lift and a whole lot of cutting but it'll be street "legalish" and have a full body so I can drive it wheeling once again.

Probably build off of this one...  Keep everything centralized I guess.

I'm super pumped to build another truck, I kinda go wrapped up in the buggy deal and started hacking my junk apart making it more and more buggy but I lost the thing I loved the most about it.. I loved driving it on the street.  The next incarnation will be registered and insured and have most of the body and it won't be narrowed.  I don't want it to look like much more than a yota with not enough lift and too big of tires when its done.  Sort of a sleeper deal.

Well in the grand scheme of things the truck is costing me the fuel to go get it.  On that trip mybuddy is paying half the fuel to pick up a new engine for his sami so it's pretty cheap.  I could drop my engine, trans and cases the ruck and wheel it in all its ifs glory but that ain't gonna happen.

That's kind of the direction I ended up going. After Building up my 2wd (50% 2wd-4wd conversion on pirate) I figured I was going to make it a trailer rig. I bought tow rig, then got to work removing the smog, doors, glass, minimalized the wiring harness, stripped the interior, etc. from the trail rig. By the time I was done, I had a rig I could only tow, not enough money for a trailer, and barely enough to fund the tow rig.

Recently, I came across a rat infested 82 in need of some love for free. I'm parting out the trail rig, fixing up the 82, and selling the tow rig. Less money, more fun, and the girl friend is pumped about going to the desert more often. With the tow rig we were only going out a handful of times a season at best. Each trip cost $400-700, depending on if I had to rent a trailer or not. Being able to pack a lunch, and spend a tank of gas is looking prietty good.

Probably build off of this one...  Keep everything centralized I guess.

EXACTLY!!  If I want to take a local run or anything that's under 200 miles away we can just jump in the truck and go...  I do have a tow rig but it was only $200 and it don't eat many oats parked in the driveway. :hahaha:

Picked up a 3rd gen x-cab today for $50.. Gonna wash it up and start chopping it apart to replace whats left of the old cab...  It'll be back on the road in no time now.  Still plan on re-working the suspension to lower it a couple inches and tubing the front out.  We'll be back in business in no time now.

Yup, but I'll keep it without the dash this time and lower the truck a couple inches just because I can...

yea go figure, damned truck went emo and took a dive...  :hahaha:

Been thinking about the truck while I'm driving south this week...  I think I'll move the cab back an inch, remove the body mounts, rockers and do a bit of a boatside.  The engine will come back 4 or 5 inches and down a bit...  I'm planning on dropping the suspension an inch or two too as well.   Ned to hurry home so I can hack it apart.
