If you guys can get any of these contact names/ numbers for me it'd be great. So far I am being told that there can be no modifications until after the 2nd o2. Even though I'm putting out 1/5 of the emissions as the 22re did 2 yrs ago. This just makes no sense.

I tried to get a direct number for the station but they would not give it to me. I called the  SMOG REF CALL CENTER told them I had a lot of technical questions for the Ref and they put a message in to him, to call me.

Hey Mike, I was going through this thread, and while on the first page were you have listed the different Toy engines and their output, I've noticed that the 4.0 and 4.7 dont have engine reference numbers, like the 22RE or 3RZ. I know that the 4.0 is a 1GR but what is the 4.7??

The 4.0 and 4.7 V8's are 1UZ & 2UZ... I believe? I think there's a 3UZ too?? All these numbers start giving me a headache after a while.

Yes, there is a 3uz-fe too.  I believe it is the 4.3 V8 with a aluminum block and VVTI and SEFI fuel injection.  It replaced the 3sgte engine as toyota's Super GT power plant for their race cars.  They were in the Lexus 430 series cars in the U.S.

The 2uz-fe is what is most commonly found in Tundras as well as Land Cruisers and 2004+4runners.  In 2005, they started gettting VVTI and a plastic intake manifold.

I know the 1uz-fe is the 4.0 lexus V8 with a aluminum block and got VVTI in 1997.

Finally finished my project. I have a couple cosmetic things left and AC things but its smogged, registered and gets over 20MPG.

Engine front

SMOG and fuse box in factory Tacoma positions

MAF and resonators

Side view; E-Locker switches that still need to be mounted

Passenger side view; Still trying to figure out the radio, no speakers, no sound. The Tacoma AC/heater and blower motor are under that dash.

Drivers side view; Tilt wheel works, Speedometer is 2 MPH off with Marlin signal converter.

The only 4-runner wiring left is for the rear window. The rest in all new from the 2000 Tacoma donor.

Exhaust crossover; driveshaft clearance is an issue with the HP 3rd

Front clearance; Electic fan was a must. There was 3" too little room for mechanical.

Rear is tight. Just like I like it. Harness in factory position.

85 4Runner
2000 3RZ
2000 Tacoma dash, wiring harness, AC/Heater system
Front Diamond Axle with 5.29 HP E-locker, Longfield 30's, Kongs Hi Steer,
Rear Tacoma axle with 5.29 E-locker, Front Range Off Road Full Float Axle Kit
Marlin Dual case, Marlin 4.7 gears in rear case

I have lots of questions for you about your dash swap. PM me if possible or email me vwfastg60 at yahoo dot com.

Im getting ready to do this swap myself. I have a parts truck and want to know how much more or less space i will have in a standard cab truck with the dash. I also am looking for any tips or tricks to making the dash go in smooth and have everything work. Do you have a write up on it or know of any?

Mine cracked almost all the way around, but who cares. I welded my back together and it stopped. Plus I've dynoed both and they have the same output to the wheels. If you get a good motor for a good price and it has the cast one on it, dont spend your money on buying another stock one. It's just throwing your money away. Buy an aftermarket header.

As for the amount of room the Taco dash takes up. Well, you got the pic's, what do you think.

As for easy of install. Make sure that you use the Taco cross bar behind the dash, so you are not making new mounts for everything.

Well, the cast manifold straight sucks. However, the mini-header is a very solid peice. Like many folks, my frame is too narrow for many of the headers. I can't justify paying $400 for an aftermarket header just to have to cut it all up to make it fit. The stock mini-header can be had for $100.

i have been having some problems with the stock gauges the temp and the oil are on before i even turn the motor over temp is at like running temp and oil is 3/4 up but when i start it oil goes to the bottom and temp just stays the same and sometimes goes the cold.  So i wanted to drive it so i bought a aftermarket temp gauge to make sure it is running good before taking it on its first drive.  The motor was getting warm and water wasn't moving in the rad so i turned it off.  To check the thermostat to see if it was working and it is opening at the right temp.  But the motor is still not cooling down or moving water in the rad, i don't know why it is getting warm.

Thanks, I have yet to pull the taco dash out but im planning on using everything from the taco. My truck is going through a cab swap so while its all off im painting everything on the cab and didnt know if there was huge holes to cut or welding to do because i just dont want to paint it and then have to grind fresh paint to weld it. I will mock it up before paint then. This rig is being built for more of a winter daily/ summer camping rig then a full on crawler. Rust was an issue with the old bed so between the bed and cab im making sure they are 100% rust free and taking a bunch of steps to insure they stay that way.

so today i tired to find out about the cooling problem, so i removed the thermostat and let it idle it got up to 220 so i killed it.  So I checked the heater hose to see if the water pump was pumping good and it is.  I think it maybe be a radiator and i need a shroud if someone has one.

are you re-using the same old radiator? If so, you need to replace it w/ a new one. You're supposed to replace radiators like every 10 yrs anyway. That old radiator is probably so clogged up...
