Have you considered a 3 row all-metal radiator? thats what I'm using on my 3rz. its for a 3.0. works great

Well made it safely back home from the California trip. Truck did excellent. My rear E-Locker motor went out and I bent up my exhaust. Otherwise made it through without a hiccup.

I really enjoyed meeting all of you, and want to thank ovrarok, 1985Crawler, Dingman, HogCanyonHopper, megaphoneman, ToyonRocks, and everyone else for showing me such a great time. I am already looking forward to coming back!

So after I get fixed what broke on the California trip, next up will be an overhaul of my wiring as well as an upgrade to 2 new batteries, addition of light bar + rock lights and more. I am going to start saving up for new 37" Cooper STT Pros with Raceline beadlocks that I hope to utilize my tax return and said savings for.

I also am going to get a sound system put in and my radio seems to have stopped working (antenna related).

Any plans for 4.70 gears in your rear t-case?

Yeah if I can afford it I will be doing that over my 2 weeks of vacation around Christmas time. I need to pound out the trans tunnel some at the same time as it is contacting the cases and causing vibes in the truck. Wouldn't mind upgrading the outputs at the same time. It will all depend on $$$ per usual.

I think the key word is competition. In my opinion, this fall into the category of things that are highly unlikely to ever break with the way you intent to build your truck and driving style, but more insurance isn't a bad thing either. I didn't have the option and probably would have opted out since a broken output shaft isn't common at all. I would blame it either one driving style or straight up crazy wheeling that is beyond my needs.

Still not scared of the stock outputs, but understand your want to build strong. I 100% agree with that philosophy and we all have a different idea of where the line it between enough and overkill.

The fact that it is my only form of transportation plays into it as well. That and the whole driving 1000 miles from home to wheel it as well. I've tried to over build it at every chance I can.

I get the daily driver aspect as I drove mine as a DD prior to kids, but I always had a second car at home. You never regret not breaking...

Is it fair to assume that you made it from Loon Lake to Rubicon Springs in about 5 hours and 15 minutes? Are the two videos pretty much every inch of the trail? I would guess that you should be able to exit in under 3 hours out the Tahoe side (excluding the traffic jam potential from the event) making it an 8ish hour trip.

I was thinking that it was comparable to the Gold Spike for how long it would take and it seems to be about right with the Golden Spike possibly being longer.

I was trying to find a specific spot on the video, but couldn't recognize anything in my bounce around attempt. There was a fun spot just down from a switchback that wasn't too far before the bridge into Rubicon springs.

It looks like the road may have been "improved" a bit since my trip. I guess they have to make sure the Trail Rated Jeeps can get through!

Obviously it was my first time on the Rubicon so I'm by no means a subject expert, however it definitely felt a little too easy. I was especially disappointed with how easy Little Sluice was. Don't get me wrong it was definitely a great experience and the views were to die for which is a big reason why I'm into wheeling.

The video was edited to eliminate all down time. The little fades to black you see are times when I edited out the downtime. I tried to sync the stop and the start back ups as best as I could to make it feel like a smooth transition and less of a hard stop. I believe it took us roughly 6 hours to reach the Springs. That was with some lengthy stops including a long one at Big Sluice where we ran into traffic coming uphill. There was also a few times we had to give Steve a tug out (though he knocked it out of the park for his first time rock crawling). I think with equal built rigs and no traffic the trail can easily be done in 4 to 4 and a half hours. That is Loon to the Springs of course. If you add in Caddy then it is obviously longer.

The trail has significantly changed from the first time i went through it 5 years ago. technical spots have been filled, reshaped, and around-abouts have been made.

I can only imagine how it used to be a decade ago.

I'm assuming you didn't make it through true big old sluice? This part of the trail is still quiet technical
