It's 1/4" from the bottom of the transmission, flat all the way back.

Haven't bent a spring yet, I'll bend one at MCR5 if my motor doesn't blow up on the way there.

You should cut the leading corners on the driveshaft cutout to a 45 degree angle to avoid any potential "snag" point.  The sharp corner is more likely more likely to hang up.
