if it is over 75k you will want to stay away from full syn. I run 10 w 30 high mileage penzoil in my runner. just remember when you chose a brand stay with it. mixing oils can cause them to brake down quicker. (they have different ditergents in them) cheap oils are ok but they brake down faster.

If you have alot of oil burn you could also bump to 10-40. i might stay away from it if its really cold where you live though
If you see it, its for sale.

It would work however Toyota recommends 10w-30 for 22r series engines.
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
 Marlin 1200LB clutch

 no substitute for 4wheel drive.

86 22RE; 169,000 miles.

From about 50,000, I used 20w50 GTX or Havoline.

Last change I went to 15w40 Delo Diesel oil for the zinc.

Oil pressure didn't drop, so I'll be sticking with this...........

You want the Delo 400 but it only comes in 15W-40 for Diesels or 30W.  I run the 30W.  But if you have to smog, you won't pass inspection due to the zinc additive.

Generally you don't want to run 15W-40 in a gas engine, due to specific additives for a diesel engine.  But Delo 400 is reverse engineered so it can be used in gas engines.  AFAIK it's the only one that will allow that.

This post covers everything on how to pass smog.  Including what oils to use.

I passed without any problems.........

Zinc is a wear additive that's being phased out because it damages cat converters.

It's good for metal on metal contact at startup.

Its good to stick with a oil you an afford. 10w30,10w40 are perfect for a Toyota 22RE. If you feel that you are looking for an extended protection while not harming your motor. I suggest adding a bottle of Lucas Motor Oil in place of a quart of reg oil in your oil changes. Been using Lucas in my Yota's for over ten years and it has proven to help extend the life and MPG. You can pick it up at any Auto Parts store.

Hope this helps....:beerchug:

I use Castrol or Mobil 1 full synthetic. Works well for me and I can get it cheapish at Costco. I change it every 5000 miles or so.
