Dammit, don't crush my hopes! I'll find out when I get that 5.29/Detroit third I've been blabbing about... have to do some axle seals and brakes too.
So I just spun the engine (by hand) one turn and the output moved about 1/4 turn. Do I have it backwards or does this mean there's 4.7s in that there t-case?

Thanks to the GI Bill, I should be installing a 5.29/Detroit in the rear this coming week... ought to do those axle seals too, eh?

Pulled the rear third and it's actually locked (not welded), check it out:

How does $600 sound for it? Locked and 4.88s... need to get seals all around though. Drove in front-wheel and it's so slower than before; nice and crawly.  :turtle3:

$600 sounds about right, It would cost $600 for the locker and $450 to get it regeared and then a set of gears + Setupkit would be $300 for yukon stuff.

Okay... so now what? he V6 axles are wider than 4 cyl, right? How much wider and what do I measure to find out? I'm guessing I can't have a 4 cyl third in a V6 housing too... awesome.

V6 diff's are @ 20% stronger than 4cyl diffs.  79-85 rear axle housing are 55" wide.  86-95 housings are 58" (V6 & 4cyl).  You can swap V6 to 4cyl and 4cyl to V6 with no issues.

u can have a v6 3rd in a 4 cyl housing, they are the same opening
the only diff is the 79-85 housings and shafts are 3" narrower than the 86+ rear axles

I love you guys... thanks! In case you didn't notice, I'm really bad at making decisions especially when I am 75% clueless about what I'm doing.

From backing plate flanges it's 51 1/2" and shafts are just over 25" from the bearing to the splines. I just need someone to tell me what to do... I'd re-gear it but that's $$ and time I could spend elsewhere. I planned on getting the Detroit later today but if this is a V6 axle, why put a 4 cyl third in it?

Damn I hate decisions...

>>Dan

Edit: Screw it, I'll get the Detroit and sell the V6 third. It's not like this is the LAST ONE ON EARTH!!!

It's pending to a guy in CA but if that falls through it can be your friend's. It's a limited slip from what people are telling me.

Today I picked up the Detroit/5.29, hydro and doors from Josh then went into the wilds of Greeley to get the sliders from Addicted. Oh boy I got a lot of work to do this week! :woohoo:

Not yet, just got home and dropped off the booty then headed to Suz's place to get our movie action on. It'll be on this week; don't know about the sliders though. I want to get the third installed muy pronto and then do up the sliders. I may have to take it to school for welding if I run out of welding gas; I should get a refill before I start them though.

Stuff from today:

5.29s with the pending 4.88 lunchbox:

It's REALLY got a Detroit now:

Hydro is in the mix:

Sliders from Scotty:

Future half doors fromJosh:

He just left my place. I dared/taunted him that he couldn't get the sliders and the rear put back on tonight - it well be done. :)

Given anymore thought on where to go? The guys going to Illinois Gulch could still be fun?

Greenley. Street and Avenue, ugh. heh

edit: Oh, Hai.  :outtahere: Guess I'll read all the threads before asking questions on the wrong one. Slaughterhouse, rwar!

Since I forgot how long it takes to CLEAN everything, I only got the axle put back together tonight. Close... still have to clean the brake drums, remove the LPSV thing, bleed the brakes and then the rear will be done. Oh, and add diff fluid too; that might be helpful.

For the wiper seals all you have to do is take off the half-circle plates that hold in the old seals in and switch them out for the new seals. There's a How-To on PBB:

http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=842515

And they go in at a slight angle... ask how I know  :hammerhead: .

LSPV be gone today! Also picked up a fresh welding tank yesterday; it was only $50 instead of the $110 I paid last year. Uh... okay, I'll pay less!

I told him he was starting to late in the day to finish last night (taunting) but I knew he had today (and tomorrow) to finish.

I'm still giggling at the fact you think he'll be up and at the meetup at 10am.
