Well I think i have decided to redo my cage! I built it to tight to the cab and it hits the cab. Besides I didnt really like how it turned out. Im just gonna call it a good practice run. Cut it off and start from scratch sometime after the fourth.

I dot think I'm gonna make it to browns camp. My starter is bein finiky. It only works when It wants to. It's like the starter and flywheel teeth don't mesh correctly all the time. Sometimes I have to put my truck in gear and rock it. To move the flywheel. Thentry starting it again. It's quite the P.I.T.A. I really don't wanna kill my truck in crushers and then not be able to start my truck cause I'm wedged in some rocks. Pretty lame.

sell it :dunno:
I dunno if I'll be able to get the thang off my truck without destroying it. Lol it's sooo tight I had to have a buddy help spread the b pillar hoop to get it on. I'm just gonna hack it and hope I can use some of the tubing for other misc. Stuff. :dunno:

All right well after some heavy consideration. I'm cuttin the cage off tonight. Gonna try and get mystarter working/trim rear fenders. And I'm gonna go to browns camp if I get my starter working! :)

it's got a new starter.... The new one and the old one only work off and on. It f'n blows but I'm gonna bevel the teeth on the old one throw it in and see if that solves the problem.

P.s. The problem is that the gear on the starter and the flywheel do not mesh every time. It's like the starter gear runs into the flywheel and doesn't engage the flywheel teeth, so no spinning of the flywheel= no starting, unless I can rock the truck back and forth in gear to move the flywheel to a point were the starter can engage it

I hand filed the teeth on the starter gear. I gotta go do the family thing now so I won't have time to install it. But I'm gonna put this starter in tomorrow after work and hope it works :)

filieing down the starter teeth didnt help. Im gonaa try puttin a lil angle on the the flywheel teeth, And if that dont work im just gonna order a new flywheel from marlin. I think the problem is my cheapo NAPA flywheel i bought when i changed my clutch.

Also decided cutting the cage off and starting from scratch was ridiculous so im just goin ahead with what i got.

Added a tube below the rear window still need to add some triangulation and tubes under the front fenders but Im slowly gettin there. And made a hoop over the cowl/windshield wipers

cage looks good man... I would highly suggest adding some triangulation and gussets in there.... one of the worst parts about an exo is they are a pain in the ass to get door bars into (A pillar to B pillar bar) which is one of the most important parts of the cage. The reality is exo cages are more for looks than structure as they require so many bends to make them fit tight and bends make metal weak... If I were you I would invest in a rule book from an offroad racing organization (SNORE or SCORE) and read up on the cage section for some strength ideas.... its lookin good though!

Thanks man I'll look Into that. I still have alot of work to do on it. I'm planning on gusseting the four corners of the windshield with tube and a big v shape on the rear window with a post up an down in the middle of that. And then the same v shape on the roof with a tube from the b pillar hoop to front top windshield tube in the middle of that v shape. Prettymuch alo like the cage on the cover of this months CRAWL mag. And then a "A" shaped tube in front of the windshield connecting the top windshield tube to the tube above the cowl. Then more tubes from the a pillars to the front bumper yada yada yada.

you can download the SNORE rulebook on their website I believe you have to buy the SCORE rulebook but if you ask around on pirate I would imagine there is one floating around somewhere. sounds like a good plan on the gusseting and triangulation too man!
