Im starting to pull the tranny tonight even though Im sick as a dog :-\. I figurerd if I can work all day I could at least start droppin the tranny.  :beerchug:

Edit: pulled the drivelines and skid plate last night. Also removed all the shifters. Tranny is hangin by some ratchet straps all taht is left is the bellhousing/starter bolts. Also orderd Marlins 1200 lb clutch kit.

hey, be glad you got a solid front axle under there, it makes it much easier to pull the tranny.

i just pulled the tranny out of a 3.0 4runner and it got a bit hectic. possible because it was on it's side, but still.

Ya i know. The straight axle gives you lots more room to work around under there. I got it pulled last night when i got home from the beech, Im tryin to figure out the minimum flywheel thickness before i go have my flywheel resurfaced. I cant find any markings on the fly wheel itself, and i forgot to check my service manual before i left home this morning. :smack:

I use lots of ratchet straps when i pull my tranny. Makes it very easy to lower. I also use a ratchet strap to pull the tranny backwards to get the input out of the clutch. Didnt even break a sweat  :gap:

Also thinking about having my truck full wrapped. My friend does this for a living and he would do it all for the cost of materials. Its gonna look like a big mossy rock! What do you guys think?

Got my clutch done last night.n drove to work today. The peddle feels light but I can tell it's working just fine. I just need to make a small adjustment at the peddle and it should be perfect. :driving:

Ya man finally back to bein my DD, feels good to be behind the wheel again. New clutch and great steering,  :yesnod: Im very happy with how it all turned out. :beerchug:

Here are some pics of the new 1200lb clutch kit and flywheel, my old flywheel had some bad heat cracks and it had been resurfaced enough times that I felt it was just too thin to use again.

Had another stroke of bad luck this morning. My starter has been givin me trouble lately so every now and then I gotta give it a whack with my hi-lift handle. Well I guess yesterday I hit the fuel line bending the metal part so that the rubber was against my exhaust manifold. Half way to work some lady pulls up next to me screeming xause my truck was dumping gas like a garden hose on full blast. Luckily an auto parts store was right across the street. I was able to pick up a couple hose clamps and a double ended barb fitting. I spliced the fuel line back together and made it to work. But dang man. It's enough to make a guy go crazy!

But better times are ahead, planning on wheelin browns camp next weekend and I'm pickin up some 2nd gen rear springs tonight on trade for my old busted tranny. I'm gonna mix the leafs in with my TG 5"rs to lower my beast a few inches.

Swapped89 mixing 2nd gen RUF
« Reply #349 on: Apr 23, 2010, 09:27:02 PM »
Gonna start mixing my front springs tomorrow. After work today I traded my old not in good condition, R150 tranny for some 2nd gen rear leafs. Tryin to drop the truck down a few inches. The guy has another set of the 2nd gen rear leafs i think i might pick those up sat. night, to mix in the rear.

Right meow with 15psi in rear tires and 20psi in the front the frame height below the door is...drum roll please................    a wopping 28.5"s!
and the bottom of the TG skid plate is 23.5"s.

gonna try and flaten out my 5" springs.

And for the rear I'll remove two TG leafs and replace them with one from the 2nd gen pack.

My plan for the front is to use the two main leafs from the 2nd gen pack on the lower 5 of the TG springs. but also remove the 4th leaf from the TG pack. so there will be a total of 6 springs. the stock TG 5" heavy duty spring pack. has 7 leafs in it.

I mixed the springs up front and took one big spring out in the rear dropped her down 2.5"s so the frame is at 26" now. still high but a lil better i guess. And i finally put my big squishy bumpstops on too.
I cant find my before pics right now but this is how it sits and a couple pics of the bumpstops.

I need to take out another little leaf in the rear but Ima just drive it like this and see if it settles down at all.

My truck rides soooo much nicer on the road now. The softer springs are way nice. Before they were so stiff there was no give on lil bumps. But it rides like a Cadillac compared to before I lowered it. Turned out sweet, can't wait to go wheeln this weekend :driving:

thanks man I appreciate the comment. Next time the sun is out I'll get some better pics. I loaded the bed down with some bricks. To kinda simulate a full load of campin gear/spare trail parts. And the wieght level'd it out and then some. So Ima leave therear the way it is for now to help with the added wieght I bring to the trail.

P.s. (haha) did you know I'm the guy that bought yours or your brother tim's straight axle? I came out to Albany a few years ago with my girlfriend in a green 3rd gen 4runner. :beerchug:
