Dingman.

Never apparently...

Just got done sas'ing my buddy's 88 pickup..

TURNED OUT SWEET..
Much better than mine!
Thanks Thomas for getting that torch from Donny and letting us use it briefly.  Tell him we said thanks again.

Here is some pics of the progress,  we didn't get a chance to wheel it though.  My buddy Johnny is in the coast guard and drove down for a week and we got this done.  He still needs a front drive shaft and definitly lockers and gears, but here is some pics of the sas.

We used a 5" kit in the front and ford f150 rear springs out of a 2wd.

Here is the axle how it arrived at my house.

After some time we got it rebuilt to this.

Here is the truck!

Axle just hung under the rig.   Then i welded on the front hangar and later everything else that was needed.

Slight flex shot..

Parked next to my runner

Dingman.

Thanks man..

I feel it turned out way better than mine did.
So he drove down last monday night and we started tearing down and rebuilding that axle tuesday morning.  Then with many trips to the store, and a trip to the wrecking yard to get the rear springs, we ended up getting it done in less than a week.  He left not to long ago for his 8hour drive back to his base in oregon.  Next time he comes down i will get some wheeling shots for you all. Maybe i can get him to join this board.

Every thing went pretty damn smooth with the build.  Only problems we ran into is my buddy ordered the marlin knuckle gusset kit over two weeks ago and never got it for the build, which sucks, We couldn't get the drive shaft off the tcase so we bungeed it up, and we broke a couple sockets undoing bolts.

why do you say it turned out so much cleaner than your swap?

Just everything about it.  How much smoother it went then mine, and it looks much better, all the welds look tons better than mine, the paint scheme (i will probably copy ).

the tundra wasnt stuck it just wouldnt make it up the hill to leave the campsite, because it started raining heavily and the mud there sucks balls, luckily i got my 2wd 85 out before it came down hard. i had to drive 2 hours home, weld the bumper to the 4runner better, drive 2 hours back, then winch it for 2hours then drive 2 hours home

When do you want to..

Right NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Matt-

ya but what clutch, push forks, and throughout bearing assembly did u use... from the 3.4 or the 3.0?

THK Matt

 yes.

he opted to stay 3.0 stuff as he had just bought a new MC clutch for the 3.0.
and since he used the 3.0 5spd. he used all the clutch components too.

Okay the scoop with it is, if you can find a 3.4L that is manual trans then you want to use the 3.4L flywheel/clutch but the 3.0L throwout bearing.

I used the 3.0L flywheel/super heavy duty clutch from marlin for the 3.0L (that i bought specifically for the swap).

You swap the 3.0L motor mounts to the 3.4L block and i reused the the 3.0L oil pan and pickup tube.  Pm me on more information.

overloads arent doing you any good unless you plan on loading your runner full of heavy :pokinit: to where your springs flatten out the the overloads or "helper" springs will come into play and help support the load, besides that they give you an extra 3/4" or whatever they measure in height

Thomas P

yeah lets do it, tonyas b-day is monday and i promised to get her system hooked up in the runner, so i gotta do that sunday maybe, oh crap i forgot we are going camping tomorrow night, but i still wanna put the one slider on so when i drop into morris i can be halfway protected

lol...

well....

Three projects at once..  :shake:

That one slider is done.  That will be easy as pie to weld on, well wait don't you want to make another leg??

HOpefully i can get most of my chit done tomorrow.  Im going to need to find some metal for my shackles/hangars.

Thomas P

i need to cut my angles on both ends, paint the hard to reach spots and fab the center support then weld her back in place, i can alway cab the ends later, and after we do the first one the second will be cake since i made those jigs for each leg

Don't take the overloads off. You will ruin your springs if you do. You will gte a lot of axle wrap and the spring will hyper extend during up travel. Believe me from experience. Just take that bottom leaf out. I run the same 2wd 2 leaf packs with the stock overload and they have worked great for a few years now.

That honestly won't help because I don't run blocks in the rear and I run pretty much flat front springs to keep it really low. When I had new 4" front springs with the 2wd Chevy's I had to run 1.5" blocks and it still sagged in the back a little. With your 2wd springs plus that extra spring that has the spring clamps on it on top of the 2" blocks you should be pretty level if you have 4" fronts.

Well thats what im hoping.  Ill see once i get those suckers under it.

i have the u-bolt nuts here if you wanna grab em tonight

You will be seeing me later.  lol

So i like how it sits now.  Got everything done, except i need to bleed the brakes and i need to get these shocks installed.  Then tie up my parking brake cables cause apparently i cannot use them anymore.
