Little update.
Yes, the hammertone is a textured paint and it dries real hard.  It is fairly durable stuff and goes on pretty thick with a brush.  I am likin it so far.

I pulled all the parts out...and got to welding up the forward section.  So far so goods.

I am fairly slim, plus I am 90% sure I am gonna switch it over to an auto so clutch-be-gone.  The exo was big, heavy, and I didn't like the way it turned out, so now I am taking those lessons and applying them as best I can to build something I like.

Oh dear, I didn't know you were all waiting on me.  I was supremely out making money working late all week so I didn't get anything done.  I am gonna go pimp my 20% off HF coupon this afternoon, then try to get the passenger seat mounted.  I will take a picture of something for you, but I can't promise it will be progress.

No pictures of progress, just got the mounts welded to the floor for the passenger seat.
I did pick up something at HF I have been wanting to experiment with.  I keep seeing this in their adds and I wanted to know if it would be a cheap way to dimple small sheetmetal parts.

This is a Doming block and punch set.  Probably $28 on sale plus 20% off coupon.

I started with some scrap sheet.  Probably 20 or 22 gage, not sure.  Drilled a hole using step bit.  Looks like the biggest hole you can do is 1 - 1.25 inches.  After that the punches are too small.

Clamped the sheet down to the doming block and used the 4# sledge to tap the punch.

It took a few easy taps...I figure this would likely work up to 18, maybe even 16 gage.  I will try and find out soon enough.
The result is pretty decent.  I want to experiment with hole sizes and the different domes in the block to see about different depths and such, but it actually works.

Finally got a minute to work on it again.  Pass side door bar is in.

Tried some thicker sheet with the dimpling.  18 gage I am pretty sure.  Worked well.  Might be able to go thicker if heated with propane torch or something.  Otherwise, this is about maxing out.  Picture is next to the 22 gage one I did the other day.

I am now the proud owner of 240V "service" in my garage!!!

To test it I grabbed the stick welder...and remembered that I haven't really practiced with it.  I made a big booger with some 6011 rod.  Then I thought, hey, maybe I can make it looke better by going over it with some 6013!!!
But all I ended up with is a 6013 booger on top of a 6011 booger.
At least it is welded on there nice and strong.   :dunno:

Since the first go went so...badly, I figured lets try again!
Little better results this time, more practice needed.

Back of the cage is all finished except for the tire carrier.  That will go on later, after I build the racks in the back seat fro the compressor, batteries, inverter, etc...
