I probably saved two evenings of work by buying it.  I want to wheel it at some point.  I don't know if I will ever be done.

Have you cycled the rear to check clearances with the out board shock?

I have not cycled it.  I have interferences with the coil spring.  I need to swap in a set of spacers to get some extra clearance.  The shocks actually have more clearance than it appears from the photos.

Dont you think the shocks effectiveness will be severly decreased by mounting it that far forward in front of the axle?

I'm sure CTENG in KS has considered this.  The axle will have more leverage on the shocks, but how it work will come down to spring rates and the shocks themselves.  From my experience with Bilstein shocks, I would anticipate an extremely soft ride and minimal control from the shocks.  I swapped mine out for Rancho 9000s because I didn't feel that the suspension was adequately controlled for highway driving when I carried a load (essentially stock geometry).  This doesn't mean that another shock couldn't do the job or that it won't work exactly how he wants it to.

Slower speeds and not jumping make it an apples and oranges comparison other than the basic geometry has been proven to work with the right spring and shock combination.

Everyone calm yourselves.  It is more than likely that these shocks are gonna be too short anyway.  I will see how they do and then make a decision.  Unfortunately, due to spatial constraints, I was limited in where I could put them.  I was NOT going back to the /\ style cause that was terrible before.

Edit:  On a second note, I am convinced that the Bilstein 5000 series shocks are valved way too soft.  Maybe OK for an F-Toy, but the Ranchos I had on a previous truck were far better at controlling body roll.  I cringe at the thought of using these shocks on a full size.  They ride nice in a str8 line on the road, but I want more stability.

And shabaam, dr side shock mount is on and I mocked up the bike too.  What excitement. Seat need some adjustment, but that is about the look I was going for.

It was a parts bike a guy down the road was selling on CL.  I got it cheap with a good street title.  The tank and seat are not the originals.  The seat is a Biltwell and the tank is off a 60's era Bridgestone motorcycle.  I bought it last summer, it has been a long term project since.  Hard to get motivated on a bike when it is a -10 windchill outside.

Well, I am building it for fun and I would only really ride it the short hop over to work.  No long trips or anything.  My nuts are brass anyway.  Can't be hurt.
