The entire rear area is completely worthless.  With the suspension seats in there and the top on, I cannot get to anything stored in the back.  No one can sit back there cause you can't climb past the front seats.

The hole thing has turned out to be heavy and completely impractical.  At this point I want it to be open, easily accessible and useable.  Plus lighter wouldn't hurt my tow rig any.

so your gonna chop the entire top off?

why no just ditch the glass top and put your fuel cell in that area and either enclose it as a minibed or soemthing?

No more exo this way. Just a std type of cage, no sheet metal to deal with.

I finally bought one of these.  If you do NOT want to cut your truck apart then I would recommend NOT buying one.  It will jump out of its case and do damage so fast you will be amazed.  Turn your back and BAM, your truck will be scrap.

Made short work of the cage, under an hour to kill the whole thing.  This may just be the best tool I have ever bought.

Plus there is a guy on Pirate making an adapter plate the the saw bolts to, then throw the plate into a vice and viola, instant vertical bandsaw.  Good price too.  I'm gonna snag one of them.

They are grey cloth in decent shape...The top isn't getting shipped but I will consider the seats.  Let me get them out of the truck and see what they weigh and I will get back to you.  You can have first dibs.

No dove for the front, I am gonna rework the toobing and cut out the rotting inner fenderwells.  Also the winch mount/bumper will be all new.  I have a mount that Marlin gave me at MCR last year.  Much cleaner than the one I built.

I started putting together the plates fr mounting the cage.  I am reconsidering chopping the front roof section.  I may just build the cage internal for now and if I roll it I can chop off the top and just leave the cage.  I also permanently attached the access panel to the gas tank that is no longer there and I am gonna have to start patching holes.  This is ridiculous.

eeeewww....it has rust! :yikes:

what? :cheese:

I like the internal/exo idea. Any ideas drawn up in CAD yet? Also, if you are going to be welding your toob onto those plates, mounted only to the floor, might I suggest that you run an equally sized plate on the other side of the body to help resist it tearing apart in a roll?

CTENG in KS

THanks for the advice, I will do something under the body.  The plates are really there to make it easy to pull to fully weld the cage.  It will have more sections that will be fully welded in after the interior section is bolted down.

No pictures, just gonna get to bending.

She came from the NE...of course she has rust!!

I fully agree on having the plate for added weld penetration and strength...figured that's what you idea was and just wanted to point out a potential weak spot. :twocents:

Werd, I want to make it so I can do as much welding out of the truck as possible.

So I spent some time pondering the easiest, quickest way to get the holes in the wheel wells patched up.  I might as well get to it while I have the tub empty.  Here is a little look at just how bad it is.  Try not to cry.

I decided to do it in sections.  I cut the shape I needed and then drilled holes around the outside.  I knew there was no way I was going to fully weld the patch panels cause the metal is so thin and pocked.  I settled on 5/32 holes as just the right size to do spot welds all around.

There we go.  Still have another panel or two to add to get all the holes covered, but this should do with a little seam sealer and bedliner.

My picture quality seems to be going downhill here.  I am wondering if the 4 year old camera might be on its last legs.   :dunno:

Got the stoopid window out of there.  Patching blows.  I am starting to think it would have just been easier to use some thicker gauge sheet and rebuild the wells instead.   :tantrum:
