Yeah I was looking at that and my first instinct was that it was bobbed. Now that you mention it though I see it. The stretched fender wells threw me off.

id be so down for that but i dont have any money to spend on bobbing my top, like the fiberglass resin and all that good stuff. if it was summer and i could keep the top off without having to worry about rain id be down but i dont want to do it till i either get some mula or summer begins

Personally, I don't think you really need to bob a 4runner. Yes, I scrape ass a lot but I am only running 35s right now and I like the length of a stock 4runner. I bought it with one of the biggest reasons being that I could sleep in the back if I wanted to, protected from the elements. I am a tall guy and even now, fully stretched out, i have to bend my knees slightly and I cant stretch out all the way in the back of a 4runner. Not to mention I think the first gen 4runners have the perfect amount of space in the back for gear or what not when on the trail. If I bobbed my 4runner there is no way we could cram 3 peoples worth of gear into my runner. That was another thing, I wanted to be able to take 3 people with all our crap for 3-4 day trips at least. I think bobbing a 4runner you are going to lose way too much valuable space. Thats just me. I think it looks cool when 4runners get bobbed but I can't see myself ever doing it to mine.

Matt what do you think about the extended wheel base thing Y_K posted. I think that would help because at least you wouldn't have the @$$ end hanging off as much. Plus it seems like less of a hassle then doing the bob.

i agree with the whole sleeping in the back/taking gear, because thats basically why i bought my runner in the beginning, and i love sleeping in the back of it. its very convenient and comfy. when i sleep in the back i always leave the tailgate down and my feet are pretty much flush with the back and so i figure if i took out 6 inches id still have the tailgate to lay me feet on.

the whole bob idea was strictly because i thought it would be fun to do, and look really sick. im happy with the way my wheels and i agree that my ass end rarely gets hungup, and if it does its gonna be un-avoidable either way. i was just looking for something that would be different since there are tons of runners out there and in my opinion most runners all look the same.

i think that ideas pretty bad ass but it will also be a lot more hassle, it would take LOtsss of time and be very hard to make it look really good. you also need to cut out parts of another truck (which i dont have), id have to remake my rear driveline, and new spring hangers.

Just cut the existing wheel well out further back kinda like a Jeep comp cut. Then sheet metal it in as if you were just cutting out the fender.

There's a guy here in Modesto that did that and his wheel base is at 107"

Yeah you got some good points. I wasn't thinking about the whole "extending the wheelbase" part of it lol. So it's probably just up to what you want to do with it. I'm trying to think, and there's not much else that could be done to make a 4Runner unique. Besides spending a lot of time on some kind of custom body work.

ya exactly, thats what sucks about runners, they are all basically the same until you start linking them, etc.

But even if you can't go crazy custom on them, they are still hella sick for sure. Just gotta get creative, if you want something unique. At this point I'm cool with the generic 4Runner. A little less pizzaz but it makes up for it with awesome functionality.

  runners are a great vehicle, stretched wheelbase would be sick though. really can't see bobbing my truck cause I need the space for hauling, my little truck can't hold enough as is.

your runner is the same length from the door jamb to the tail light as my truck is.  i was thinking today that i might look for a 4 runner body and cut and move the rear wheel well back a bunch to match my wheelbase.  you should be able to use the part of the body that you cut out for the wheel well to patch up where you cut out the wheel well.  wouldnt be to hard if you didnt really care how awesome the body work turned out.  i probably woulnt even bondo it, jsut paint it and call it good.  i really wish i have the runner room and removable top for sure.

haha i was mashing so hard last night snow was more than amazing. theres SOO much new snow we couldn't even get past the skyway, butte meadows intersection (4feet of new snow). besides not being able to go off the main road to much or going far it was bad ass. we were easily plowing snow to the headlights. i didn't get worth of traction till i took my tires to 2 psi. i was basically riding rim but could go anywhere till snow got past the headlights.
