if i was forced for whatever reason to have to sell my truck by the end of the month, id go find a 8 lug chevy 44 front end and slap it under my truck and still ask the same price i was going to for it when it had the 60 in. then sell the front and steering setup on it and make another $1200.

Well im sure matt will tell exactly everything he did but pretty much he added some Shock towers and some rancho rs5000 shocks that have been handed down. Those shocks were actually first on FIREBALL's 2nd gen, then his 2nd gen runner, then on my 81 longbed, then on my 86 4runner, then on kiyuls truck and now to matts.

Anyway he finally weas able to flex out his truck with the new springs and it flexes pretty damn good.

RIP Kyota.... you are the man

ya dude im SOOO stoked on it my front end is Way legit now flexes way better than i imagine and not that its able to do that it will only get better ones i break those springs in more. i highly recommend those Durango leafs. i also added bump stops after doing that other work, it so much better not having to worry about screwing my spring up and still being able to steer since my tire wont fully hit my fender.

thanks, do you ever go snow wheelin at high lakes?

I've been dying to, but I haven't really trusted my truck enough yet. Plus, just when I get it drivable I decide I want a Runner. Went up a handful of times last year, but my Toyo MTs didn't impress me.
I read you are doing the welding program at Butte, what do you think about that? Ever since I started WLD 20 I've been kinda thinking it would be a decent decision. Sounds like there's lots of opportunities for welders these days. The program is pretty hardcore though from what I hear.

ya its deff one of the highest ranking welding programs out there. we have some reallllly smart teachers that know there :pokinit:. its a great program but you have to be motivated and enjoy welding. if you don't then its not gonna work out and will be hell. there's not much hw, but the days are long and we have so much lab work its overwhelming, and its not just your basic welding procedures. the :pokinit: we do is ridiculous and way overkill for what most of the people will do out of the program. but IMO you really have to enjoy welding to take the program and succeed. but i highly recommend it if that's what you enjoy. I'm assuming Marvins your teacher for wld 20...? hes a really good guy, hella smart and knows his :pokinit:. hes a cockkkyyy old b*std, but has lots of good stories and if your into that field of work, be sure to pick his brain and talk to him about stuff beyond the class, couse hes very knowledgeable.

did u ever know a kid named billy ng some japaneese cowboy. he went through the program last year?

hmm im not sure i actually knew a few people from the program last year, and have chatted with other people. but that person doesn't sound familiar

808

yeah well he told me he did, but he welded my shock towers on cause i knew him from high school ne ways they broke off twice and the second time i could tell there was no penetration at all. it looked like a really clean bead tho thats why i was wondering if he was just full of  :pokinit: or not, i dont think he would have passed if he couldnt even weld on my shock towers

Hahaha Marvin is hella funny, he teaches my machine shop class. He has experience in everything it seems! But I had Trevor Robinson for Wld 20 and now for wld 21, he's tight.  I do like welding, but I'm still learning too. Not sure if I love it though, you know? I'm sure if I buckled down and got serious I could do it. Probably good prep for me to be down there all day.
Are you taking other classes along with the program or does the program pretty much fill it up? It's all week isn't it?

well it would depend on where it broke. if the bead broke because it had no fusion/tie-in and just 'plopped' off then he obviously didn't weld it right but if the bead physically broke then there's a lot of other factors than can take place and probably wasn't because the way he welded it but was more from what he was using/etc. id imagine if it was shock towers it may have broke the toe of the weld and actually ripped off part part of the frame where it tied in to the toes of the weld..? in that case he welded if legit it just wasn't legit enough for the right application and needed to be plated. out of all honesty id only trust about 20% of the people in my class to weld something on my vehicle. the rest aren't capable in my opinion. especially when it comes to legit real life fab work. so for all i know he might have just not been that good at welding. there deff are atleast 10 people in my class that i can think of that would have a hard time welding something like a shock tower on correctly. chances are if his beads looked good then he prob knows how to physically weld good but jsut might not be knowledgeable on setting the welder up or was working with a POS machine. you usualllly don't come across people that can lay a decent bead but end up being a shity welder. but bottom line in general is just couse you take a class or program doesn't mean your always legit.

ya trevors way cool, hes also a really good guy. and no you aren't able to take other classes..even if you wanted to (which you wouldn't). right now i have 21.5 units and its full time from 8-5 monday through friday, and we have Saturdays from 7-2. its a specifically designed to where you go just for welding and welding only. its through butte college but we really aren't associated with other parts of the school.

808

yeah well the first time it ripped the frame with it but after it was plated it ripped it off the weld was still on the shock just nothing left on the frame. like it just popped off :wag:

we are starting the gtaw and gmaw units. but we have been stick welding and gas welding all year. this semester we have to bend test everything we do. and to get credit for the assignment we have to pass the bend test and we are held to the highest code standards and in some cases higher than the highest. its pretty much a pregnant dog and is pretty intense.

for example i just did a single bevel open grove in horizontal (2G position) on heavy plate, which qualifies 1" thick or greater with 6010 electrode and a backing strip for full pen. it took me 45 passes to fill it, and all day to weld/prep/and bend, one of the bends was passable but the other snapped. it sucks because that was my second attempt and now i have to do it all over again couse it counts for nothing. But now i know what im doing wrong so 3rd times the charm.

and as far as positions, beveling, etc. we do everything you could think of.
