That is one cool, clean little Yota. As Rocksurfer mentioned it gets extra bonus points for being a diesel. :gap:

I wanted to revive this thread from the dead to try to get some opinions.
I just got a new 2016 4runner, and I wanted to do some retro SR5 graphics on it. Here is what I was thinking. Opinions?

I'm an OEM graphics nerd, I'd like anything that looks like Toyota would have done it

In 2D it seems to be a bit thick/busy of a rig to have that type of stripe on, though it might look better in real life.

With the more curvy look of that gen Runner, something from the first gen trucks might look better

I would carry the front set into the rear doors some, and start the rear set on the rear doors around the handle.
Fortunately with the removable wrap paint by duplicolor you aren't stuck with graphics if the you don't look as good as you thought they would.

Another option would be to put your own spin on an old version, if you haven't come across his site, http://www.jamesdeancreations.com/toyota.htm has plenty of styles to draw from.

man, that thing is clean
I got it from a old man that was the 1st owner and it only had 98000 miles on the original motor. That picture was 12 years ago. I sold the truck to my brother in law before moving to WA. I put a stage 5 LC Engineering long block 1 yr before selling it to him. Suspension was a All Pro 4" SAS conversion kit. Hipinion front diff, longs, lockrite locker, and 5.29s. Rear axle just had a Detroit with 5.29s.

Here's one I found a while back when I was looking at pictures of them in red. Mine was originally red, and may end up that colour again, although I think it will have to have pinstripes:

]

And the thread title says all Toyotas with pinstripes, so I'll leave this here:

green200b, aka Alistair

1982 Toyota Hilux 4WD - 350 Chev, G52, 4.3s, Detroit Locker, 33x12.5 mud tyres
1981 Mazda RX-7 Sport, 12A rotary - daily
1974 Mazda RX-2, 13B rotary - cruiser
1980 Datsun 200B - first car, now hibernating

Can't beat that retro look right down to the sliders, bumpers and wheels, I have a couple complete oem stripe kits just in case it ever needs to be redone. Can't even begin to list the spare parts that were bought as Toyota discontinued them.

Can anyone provide the dimensions for the 85 sr5 stripes?  Id like to know the width of each block, the width of the paint between stripes and the angle of cant.
Please and thank you.

I understand why there is a "simplicity of design" perspective from Japan's early Toy trucks...

However, those factory graphics are boring, mundane, distracting, awkward, and do practically nothing to visually enhance the lines of the body.  Unless I needed to keep the "factory" look, there are so many more graphic design options that would be WAY more visually appealing.

I don't see your point. people dressed like complete freaks in the 70s but it was the style. The SR5 stripes are retro and cool

on topic : check out my swish SR5 graphics! they're on the doors too but you can barely see it under the primer.

I don't see your point.

Comparing early Toyota pick up factory graphics to 70's style bell bottom pants and white patent leather shoes is like comparing toilet paper to tires!!  :ha_ha:

There is so much un-coolness about your truck it would take me an hour just to describe it. :yikes:

Spay painting over the factory "swish" has surely angered the Toyota spirits.... baaaaadd Karma!

Coolness is a matter of opinion, right? :dunno:

I'm glad to see this thread hasn't died yet, just went through the entire thing and I have an idea for my rig when I repaint it. Unfortunately, I'm neither good at photo editing nor can I post pics yet because I was a guest on the forum for far too long.
