The big tan beast still doesnt have a drive shaft so no 4WD....it was snowy and icy up out back and it got stuck, so he took the silver Taco up to rescue it.  Well....the silver one slid into a damned tree!  Don't worry though....the tan one is just fine!  :shake:

IT'S ALMOST TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We just got our building permit today!  Dropping the final signed papers off at the bank tomorrow...... new utility pole has been set, pipe for in the ditch underneath the driveway has been delivered.....  building plans are in the process of being officially approved by the codes guys.

Should be breaking ground in 2 to 3 weeks!!!   :willynilly:

:eye:   :eye:   STAY TUNED!  :eye:   :eye:

Edit:  Little did I know, this was just our "zoning permit."  The official building permit isn't issued until the prints are approved by the Big Inspector Guy.  What a process!

OK folks.....get ready!...............get set!............

We're supposed to be breaking ground NEXT FRIDAY!!   Possibly the following Monday, but STILL!!!  The only thing we're waiting on now is for the official building permit to be issued, which is supposed to happen next Thursday.   But everyone is all lined up and just itching to get the permit in hand so we can start!

We cut down the huge dead ash tree and are in the process of getting it out of there:

It changed the view quite a bit:

Here is an idea of what we're planning, only the real thing will have 4' of stone on the bottom:

Side view:

Main floor plan:

I'm so excited!!!  :hyper:

I'll be posting TONS of pictures once the construction starts.  There is SO MUCH RED TAPE you can't even imagine.  I can't believe it's MAY and we're just starting.  If I had any idea how long all the paperwork and preparation process would take we would have started back in December!
RIP Kyle, we love and miss you man.  :smooch:

Are you going with traditional stick framing or are you doing something like ICF?

Wait....it's late here and I'm on a lot of cold medicine.  haha.  I just realized what ICF is.  I assume Insulated Concrete Forms?  The first few feet of the basement walls will be that, but since the "basement" will be fully out of the ground on all sides, it'll just be stick-built from there, instead of doing a full 9' of the concrete walls.  Does that make sense?

We didn't want the basement in the ground because we hear that ground water is plentiful where we're building and we hate water issues.

Despite my disdain of the cold winters...I miss the architecture from back east. I like all the colonial homes and furniture. It doesn't really fit out here in the land of mud huts.

How is a basement a basement if it's the first floor?

hehe....Just because we're calling it the basement.  LOL.  It'll be unfinished and that's where all the utilities will be.  So it'll be "used" as a basement, but yeah it's the first floor really.  haha.

Jan  arent you like  4-5 feet above the road ??  ifyour 5 feet above the road,  drop the basement into the ground 3 feet, with french drain all the way around  with  a drain on each corner  coming out  almost to the road  in a  rock bed

i saw a house built  like what your planning a while back,  its a gorgeous house  but the guy said "well we where worried about ground water"  i said "but dude  your  10 feet  above the highway on a good  leechable  sloping  terrain,  a french drain  would  secure  NO ground water problems"

he asked his  architect that was  there at the time  and archi dude said "well you said you wanted it above ground  so i didnt tell you"

  you guys are killin me!

Thanks for the advice Glen...I really like the idea of it being out of the ground though.  I'm not  a big fan of your typical cold, damp basement.  I think this will be nice.

Yesterday we finally got rid of the outhouse!  Pulled it over with the Taco and then pushed it into the fire pit (old foundation).  Boy am I glad we didn't burn it where it stood!  That puppy REALLY burned hard core!  Here are the pics:
