Well, nobody was up there today when I got off work so I didn't get to walk around on my second floor yet, but they do have about 3/4 of the sheeting on the 2nd floor and the materials for the 2nd floor walls were delivered today.  They said we should have a couple 2nd floor walls tomorrow!  :hyper:

Also, I added a "Comparsion Shots" folder to our house photobucket where I'll only put pictures taken from the same spot so we can watch it go up from the same angle!  That'll probably be quicker to check out than the construction folder, but all the gory details will be in the construction process one as well!

I KNOW!  It's so pretty!

hahaha.  They told me it would go quick once they could start framing and I guess they weren't kiddin!!  I'm sure things will slow down again once they get to the inside and we have to wait on the subcontractors like plumbers and electricians and whatnot, but I will be THRILLED to just be able to walk all around the inside of it and play house!
RIP Kyle, we love and miss you man.  :smooch:

Exactly!

JanMarie13

Well it looks pretty funny right now....  :hahaha:  they got my "bumpout thingies" built yesterday but then they started on framing up a temporary staircase.  The huge ladder to the 2nd floor just isn't cutting it, especially with certain recent accidents in my family.  :nerv:

So today, I am calling off work, and of course Brian is always off Fridays.  So we are taking our grill over there, and Brian's going to finally get to help work on the house and I'm going to grill up some lunch!!  :wiggle:

And tonight I should be able to post up some neato pics of LOTS of 2nd floor walls!  I am getting SUPER EXCITED!!!  hahaha.  It's 5:30 a.m. here, and I've been up since I woke up to pee at 3:30 a.m.  And I just can't sleep!  I'm like a little kid at Christmas!

This is where our temporary stairs (and eventually our split foyer) will be:

You'll go up them on the right side, then come to the 4x8 foyer, then continue up them on the left, and it'll be lots of railings so it'll be really open.  :hyper:
RIP Kyle, we love and miss you man.  :smooch:

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Things are looking good.

You are right, once the framing is done things will slow down.

I miss framing :sad2:

:rofl2:   OMG you guys are killin me!   :boobs:   Maybe we can call curtain rods piercings?   :dunno:

So I wonder if the "bumpout thingies" have an actual name?  I think the way they do it with the floor joists is called a "cantelever." (spelling?)  But if the areas themselves have a name, I just don't know.

I do know that the one on the left will be in Malachi's room, and I have a hopechest that will fit right in there for a window seat/toy box, and the one on the right is in the living room and that's where the Christmas tree goes!  :hyper:

Are the bump out thingies dormers? Dormers don't really bump out off the face of the house though, they bump out of the roof.

No, that's not it. From wikipedia:

A dormer is a structural element of a building that protrudes from the plane of a sloping roof surface. Dormers are used, either in original construction or as later additions, to create usable space in the roof of a building by adding headroom and usually also by enabling addition of windows.

You'd think working for an arch. firm I would know, but we don't do residential and have never had bumpout thingies on the buildings I've worked on.
I bet a co-worker would know.

On the job site, I would call the bump outs...bump outs. I would think the real term would be a box bow or box bay window/window seat.
